They didn't need permission from the RFL to de-register him, as according to the RFL statement they've complied with the Operational Rules and terminated his playing contract. I can't imagine that they didn't at least discuss his re-registration before going ahead, and the Operational Rules allow for the RFL board to sanction a re-registration if they so wish. Although the wording of the RFL statement seems a little odd if that's already cut and dried - wording similar to the HKR statement would have caused less heat and light. |

Maybe then Rovers have terminated his contract, and in 7 weeks time reinstate said contract? This would I guess be different than simply deregistering and reregistering? |

Possible, but I can't imagine them gambling on someone else not waving a big fat contract under his nose in the mean time. Can think of at least 1 team looking for a 7 next year when their current one buggers off to pastures new. |

It's the only way to de-register and re-register according to the Operational Rules. If those rules have been followed as written... |

Then Dobson sues us for unfair dismissal and then we have to pay a fee and compensation to re sign him. That leaves us broke and unable to afford Big Willies wages, so he has to go on loan to Workington with them paying part, allowing us cap and salary space to sign O'Meley.
It's a big merry-go-round! |

Quote (c) in the case of Professional Players with a current contract registered with a
Club:
(i) by mutual agreement by Club and Player to terminate the contract which has

(ii) in the case of a Negotiated Transfer, on the receipt by the RFL of the
documents set out in Operational Rule Section C1:2:4 above and C1:2:13

(iii) in the case of a Contract Expired Player where that Player signs for another
Club and the RFL receives the documents set out in Operational Rule C1:2:4
above and C1:2:13 below. When a player has been removed from a Club
Register he shall remain on the RFL Register as a Free Agent unless he
applies for de-registration as set out in C1:1:3 above.'"
A player whose contract is terminated is moved to the RFL's register as a Free Agent. |
