Quote: Jake the Peg "I've never understood concessions for pensioners. Most of them are minted. No mortgage, fat final saalry pensions. They should be paying double'"
There are some people that really make me angry and you one of them.
I've heard some absolute garbage spoken in my time but yours is almost off the scale.
To suggest that most pensioners are minted is an absolute insult to a generation that worked their socks of for forty five years before they could even get a pension, a paltry 113.00 per week state pension, people who work now only need to work 35 years to receive a full state pension which is due to rise 1n 2016 to about around 155.00 , though current pensioners will not be entitled to it
Also, most of that generation didn't get the welfare handouts that they get now i.e. generous family allowances, child care etc, etc.
My father who started off on the shop floor before working his way up to be a manager for the last ten years of his employment, retired after 44 years of company service on a final pension of about 160.00 net per week, i would hardly call that minted, he was also one of the lucky ones, as many employees never even received final salary pensions at all, they have to currently rely on a paltry 113.00 per week, one of the worst state pensions in Europe.
So, before you go stereotyping every pensioner as minted you should first go and learn a few facts and see the reality which is.... although there are are a lucky few over 65s who came out with good final salary pensions they are not in the majority by any means.
Its also worth remembering that there are still quite a few pensioners in their late 80s who fought in the last great war, don't you think they deserve a little help here and there either.
Just remember, you'll be old one day, i wonder if your sentiments will be the same then , i doubt it somehow.
