Sad news. His son Nigel has this morning advised the passing of Dons legend Don Brooks last night.

Don always had a word and a smile when you saw him and will be sadly missed.

RIP.

It is with great sadness that I have to inform of the passing away of my father Don Brooks, sadly he left us at 8.15pm yesterday as many of you know he was connected to Doncaster rlfc for over 60 years and was until recently battling with alzheimers disease. He passed away peacefully at Doncaster Royal infirmary surrounded with his family, thank you for all your recent messages and support and I will be posting further news on funeral arrangements so any of his friends and colleagues who wish to pay there last respects can do so, thank you R. I. P dad we will miss you

Absolute quality bloke who always had time for any fan, if there more don brooks on this planet the world would be a better place, condolences to his family.

RIP Don, a true Dons legend IMO. Always had time for a chat, a proper gent and a real nice bloke. My Father in Law worked with Don at Bentley pit when he joined the NCB having just left the RAF, he also sends his condolences.

The blue tracksuit and bobble cap was a fashion icon.

A fitting tribute would be for next seasons promotion push to be labeled Do It for Don.

Really sad news. Don was part of the fixtures and fittings and my heart sank when I read the news.

Sat here this morning trying to think of something to put, but couldn't find the words.

Everyone who has been at the Dons in recent years knows the name Don Brooks.
Even when his health was failing in recent years, and he was becoming less mobile than before, he still insisted on dragging the backboard and various other large pieces of equipment to pitchside every week. He was truly a link to the original days of the Dons, and, I feel honoured to have known him for the short period of time I've been involved with the club.
The look of sheer joy on his face on the open topped bus in 2012 following the promotion trip is one I'll always remember, and, theres countless other times he could be relied upon to bring a smile to your face with a quick comment.

Perhaps the club could look at commemorating him through an award in the End of Season Awards, something like the 'Don Brooks Clubman of the Year', for services to the off field side of the Dons. He led by example.

Remember at Gateshead a couple of seasons ago singing his name as he watched next to the dugout, it won't be the same not seeing him sat near the dugout again.

Just to inform everyone who has kindly asked about my late father Don Brooks funeral arrangements, it will be held at Holy Trinity Church in the grounds of the Yorkshire school for the Deaf on January 5th at 2.45pm which is a Friday, this will be followed by a small family gathering at Rose Hill crematorium afterwards once again myself and my family thank you all for your kind words and prayers at this time thanks Nigel Brooks.
