The Free Press is now the only real newspaper that people in Doncaster read, and so it is incredibly important that the weekly covers everything that matters to the people of Doncaster. We all know how information coming out of the Dons has increased this year, and that DonsNews is doing a fantastic job. However I do not feel that the Free Press is giving the Dons the coverage they deserve, and that the meagre column inches this week are not suffcient for a team that is top of the league, unbeaten in the last 8 games and is all set for promotion. As an example this week both the Knights (now in close season) and the Rovers (a team that got relegated and out of season) have more column inches than the Dons. The Rovers is perhaps understandable but I am perplexed by the "excessive" coverage for the Knights. Nothing much happening then

It's hard to believe that we used to get bigger crowds than the Rovers.
I don't know what's wrong with people in this town, we have the best sporting team in the town down here but it's like a secret that no one knows about. The club are doing the their best but the press and general public just seem to ignore them!

According to the Free Press, we went to the top of the league (after winning at Rochdale) due to other teams having their weekend games postponed!

It is quite pathetic that such rubbish should be allowed to get past the Sports' Editor. The Rochdale game was brought forward because both teams were knocked out of the Northern Rail Cup. A fact that was obviously missed by the [iinformed[/i journalist.

Where is the Oldham report on their website?

They are letting the people of Doncaster down by this poor showing. The press is still a very powerful and influential medium. The Free Press should be playing a more positive and influential role in promoting rugby league in Doncaster.

DonsNews is doing a great job for the club. The loyal fans are doing a great job as well. We need the newspapers and the rest of the Doncaster sporting public to get behind the club too.

What else can we do, as supporters, to help get the message over?

What i find disappointing is the fact that its the closed season for rovers and donny knights, yet the Dons who are top of the league, playing entertaining rugby and on a run where each home game are posting lots of points, yet are consigned to the inner pages. surely as the only action the report etc should be a headline on the back page

The Free Press doesn't have a sports editor.

Seems to cover junior football a lot which is not a bad thing, but the Dons are the main team at this time of the year and top of the league at that. The paper itself is just an advertising rag at present mainly full of old adverts put in every week. Shame really.

Thanks for the support everyone. Nobody is more disappointed about the lack of coverage and support than me and I intend to arrange a meeting with the editor to ask the questions that you guys deserve the answers to.

I (personally) think it's a real shame that the Dons current success cannot be shared or projected more at a time when professional and semi professional sport in the town is struggling. Let's hope the lads keep up their good form and make the back page headlines sooner rather than later.

On a related note for the last couple of weeks now I have been unable to access the match highlights via the freepress but instead having to follow a link from elsewhere to find them. Also where are this weeks highlights? We scored some crackers!

While we moan about the Free Press coverage, the stuff in the Donny Star seems to be OK.. Just a shame the result couldn't be different.
