| I went along as a neutral to the game Tonight.
What is the Widnes consensus on Rhys Hanbury?
I can't help but think that he puts a lot of pressure on your team. He doesn't seem to instinctively read the game from Full Back and appears reactive as opposed to proactive when fielding opposition kicks, often appearing out of position.
On several occasions tonight this led to poor kick returns and Widnes ultimately ceding a lot of field position. I don't think McGuire and Sinfield's kicking was anything too far above ordinary.
The middle part and ending of sets (except three or four last tackle plays going out wide for some reason) is pretty good from Widnes and they should have enjoyed much more attacking field position Tonight, again, I think a big part of the reason behind that lies at the back.

| It's probably because he's not a natural full back TUB
Didn't go tonight because I was working til 8
By the sounds of your opinion we had some decent field position so not having a good seasoned playmaker in brown we probably didn't ask the questions on leeds' defence
Ah well we really need brown, flynn and dare I say it white back for the wakey game as Imo after his last week's performance carberry isn't upto the job of ahb and this game is must need win as we have Huddersfield away and the stains at home and I can't see us winning either

| On the subject of number 9s, I think Heremaia could be a good addition to Widnes this year. Jumped out of dummy half with pace tonight bringing the forwards onto the ball, Brown and Mellor may well enjoy some extra time and space off the back of that.

Oh yes matey,he was my mom last week and hopefully he wil take a bit of pressure off mellor and brown with his jinking runs, imo grant gore should be in front of carberry as he was very cumbersome out of dummy half last week and put pressure our halves and gore is far quicker with a better pass off the floor but he and paul johnson have been loaned to haven for a month but with having white, flynn and brown back we should hopefully do a job on our 'bogey' side wakey

| Rhys Hanbury has always been a liability in defence, but his attacking is usually good. I thought our coach Hodgson would have improved his postioning. Carberry too slow and Gore should be ahead of him. Craven i dont think will ever make a quality halfback.

| Hanbury's defensive liability out weighs his attacking potential. Phelps must be moved to FB. I also thought that Hodgson would of worked with him to improve his defensive decisions but apparently not. Craven has missed the boat and Marsh is also a liability and needs replacing. Not all doom and gloom yet we still have a few to return and IMO we will be a lot more steady when White returns.

| Always said Hanbury is not a full back. When I suggested this last season on the our TIW forum I was subject to a barage of abuse however at the games I struggle to find anybody who rates him as a fullback :S It's a shame because he is a talented player..completely wasted at fullback though

| What is Hanburys postion if not a fullback? Supposedly a halfback, but wont be a head of Brown and Mellor.Possibly a winger with his speed.lol

| I thought you lost it in the first half. Your defence couldn't stop us making yards downfield and I disagree on Hanbury (last night) I don't think he did that much wrong. I think your lack of field position was mostly down to lack of pressure on Sinfield & McGuire, some good kicking from Sinfield & McGuire and your own very poor kicking. I really couldn't understand this thing of moving the ball wide on the 5th, certainly not at the times Widnes did it, and it never worked all game and gave us numerous sets 20m further upfield than we would've been. The last thing you want to do is kick to the likes of Hardaker, Hall or Briscoe where they're catching it "on the front foot".
I thought Leeds wore Widnes down in the first half with some good defence to pin you in your 30m and you struggled to get out.

| I couldn't comment on Hanbury last night but generally speaking he has one asset, pace ,and a full back needs more than that in his game.More often than not he needs to sprint 25-30 yards to get himself under a high ball rather than being in that area first. If you suggest moving him from FB on the Widnes fans forum you will be ridiculed as knowing nothing about the game but people remember what he does in 1 minute of a game and forget about he other 79.Personally I would go with young Owens and leave him there.Jack has been a great talent these past few seasons but seems to have lost a bit of confidence after dropping a high ball in wet conditions in last seasons cup semi which led to a try against us, hardly appearing in the team since.Hanbury also dropped one and got away with it.Where that would leave him I don't know but despite his weaknesses he is still too good a player to be out of the 17
