All clubs have fans who walk. I know a couple of Wigan season ticket holders (who live in Barrow and are Barrovians
) and they always leave the JJB with 2-3 minutes to go, no matter what the score, to beat the traffic. They even left with 2 mins to go at the weekend when Wigan were only 2 points ahead v Catalans !
It would have been no different if Barrow had won - there would have been plenty of Widnes fans heading for the car park.
It's a real shame that Barrow get very little credit for how we've performed this season. OK, money has been spent, but we had 10 locals on the pitch in the Final. They are the real backbone of the team and long may it continue.
In 2005 we were promoted to NL1. We won 1 game all season and averaged crowds of 800-odd. We only had 7 players on the books just weeks before the 2006 NL2 season.
This season we have got within 10mins of knocking Wigan out of the Challenge Cup (played in front of a full house), are currently 2nd in the Championship (on merit), have reached our first final in 26 years and ourleague average is 2,200.
If you'd have told me this at the start of 2006 I'd have sent the men in straight jackets round !
