As we've signed Shaun Briscoe I can see neither being the case
bare in mind Danny Craven was also number one before his injury!
Hulme is an exceptional talent, every time he collects a kick I get the feeling he could go the length, even with players in front of him (as he showed at Halifax) he has great awareness and a top step to find gaps and runs a decent line through the middle too.
A bit more work in defence and also in tuning into the attacking line and we'll have a real quality player as a full back option and maybe even a return to the halves for him, though would see him more as a 6 then a 7.
