Just tried to book accommodation for the Saturday night in Newcastle for the Magic weekend but having no joy. It seems that every hotel is booked up already for that night, 30th May. I have looked at official magic weekend accommodation website and it states that you must stay a minimum of two nights on that weekend and you can't book a single night stay! There are a few rooms available for a 3 star hotel for £200 a night. However, I simply can't afford that for one nights' accommodation in Newcastle, that seems excessive. I've checked all the usual sites but anyone got any ideas of any hotels with availability? It seems odd that even though I'm booking 4 months in advance I'm unable to find reasonably priced accommodation. I'm starting to think Newcastle hasn't the hotel capacity to host this event. Is this an oversight of the RFL?

I emailed the RFL about this and to be fair they got someone to call me straight away about it. Not many sporting governing bodies would be so helpful I guess. He quoted me £110 for a room for two which seems reasonable however, he added the caveat that you must book for two nights and they couldn't do single night stays. This meant that we would be paying more than we can afford overall unfortunately. The fact you must stay for two nights seems unfair to me but I guess these hotels need to exploit times when they are in higher demand than normal. As we can't secure reasonably priced accommodation for one night's stay then regretfully we will have to not attend this year which is a great shame as I thought the game as a whole was crying out for fans to attend events.

Have you tried Whitley Bay, North & South Shields? Plenty of reasonably priced B&B's with the excellent Metro system to get you to & from the stadium.

try ringing/emailing the hotels directly, the comparison websites have so many rooms to sell but doesn't mean the hotel is necessarily sold out.
Copthorne Hotel £89 is avialable for one night
I'd also check guest houses around Jarrow, very cheap and still near to the metro system

I got 2 rooms Whitley Bay for the Saturday look there mate

Days Inn - Durham - £60 for the Saturday.

Sunderland, Washington and Gateshead not to far away either. All very accessible.

Durham is a good call if near the train station. The East Coast services are frequent and its probably faster than travelling from some outer city locations.
