It appears that Newcastle knights player Alex McKinnon has broken his neck in an apparent Spear tackle hope this guy is ok and makes a speedy recovery but knowing these types of tackles are very dangerous we have had two incidents in the last two matches one at Cas, with Ben Crookes where his legs where lifted vertical and he was drove into the ground and then Whiting on Sunday in both cases nothing was done yet Pea gets 2 mat ches for what looks like a nothing tackle and now Ellis has been suspended, these spear tackles are the types of tackles which the RFL should be concentrating on they can put a player in a wheel chair its about time we stamped them out and looked at the real issues when trying to clean the game up and make it safer

Again hope Alex recovers and returns to the knights team

| I watched the game Live.
The player knew straight away it was a serious injury....the commentary team actually stated that they were in no position to comment on it after a few minutes had elapsed.....but never mind, the lifting player got put on report!
The Aussies are very good at 'bending' the rules each year. This year is the 'lifting' pile drive tackle coupled with 'shoulder charging' in to a player as a 3rd man....seems were following suit.

TBH it does not look bad at first till they change the angle then you can see he really gets driven in head first we need to out law lifting players legs far worse than a shoulder charge in my opinion he seemed to be struggling to breath hope he is ok but it sounds and looks pretty serious

| It should an instant and long ban for anyone doing this and putting another player's life in danger.

If it's dangerous yes, but have you seen the incident? Freak accident. McKinnon, I can only assume because he thought he was going over, tucked his head under and he hit the ground with his forehead. Never went over the horizontal. It's just a sad reminder that this is a dangerous game and these things can happen.

If you stop players lifting and turning players over completely then it can be avoided this looks worse all the time statement from club web site www.newcastleknights.com.au/news ... innon.html

I agree completely, Cam Smith said exactly the same to the ref too. The worst thing that could happen is for the NRL to make a stupid rash decision on emotion, both on the rules and to the player involved in the tackle who must be feeling absolutely terrible.

| Aweful injury and I realy feel for the kid, but I don't think it was a dirty tackle I've seen worse spear tackles that didn't end in injury he's just realy unfortunate to tuck his head under at the wrong moment. Only way to cut dangerous spear tackles out is for refs to blow the whistle/call held as soon as the ball carriers leg is lifted above waist height even if it doesn't look like he's going to be picked up and spun over.

Was watching the game so saw it as it happened and I share these sentiments.

All men are created equal, some work harder in preseason.

| In an induced coma after having emergency surgery, gutted for the kid. It has to be a long road back if that's even an option.
Was a horrible tackle, picking a player up as a gang and driving them into the ground is far worse than a shoulder charge. I know there'll always be an element of risk in the sport but they do need to clamp down on these 'bent rules' tackles and they'll be out the game in a matter of weeks.
