There is no real money in the game and for years (at least since the advent of SL) clubs have been living above their means. Go back to what the game once was and know what you are in the scheme of things. The game should revert to being part-time before it goes completely t*ts up. Pay players a small basic wage and the rest in bonuses for performance. You need to look no further than the performance against Huddersfield to see why the contract system does not work. Crowds are down and will continue to dwindle unless there is reform. RL is not a mainstream, full time operation, never has been and never can be!

I think it would be better if you tried a counter argument, pointing out that the game is a financial success, that crowds are booming etc. The reason you can't is because it isn't. Over to you.

The game isn't that far from self sufficiency in my opinion, crowds don't need to be booming or in general a financial success turning over large profits each year. The cumulative revenue from fans, not sponsors, should dictate the majority of the clubs salary caps. To be self assured clubs need fans in numbers, not a rich benefactor who will run it on a loss.

Exactly. Give me an example of a "self assured" club, leaving out Hull FC, Huddersfield, Salford and Bradford Northern. And Rovers of course.
