| Could copy and paste comments from the past 3 years to sum up Friday's performance. The effort was there, the defence (one or two individual lapses aside) was good and overall it wasn't as bad a performance as it could have been against such a strong side.
However the lack of creativity and kicking game was again atrocious. Far too many times we got near the line and ended up with a poor kick, or end up throwing it to the nearest man (who is stood still) and expect them to beat 4 men and score.
the kicking yet again had 'radar' on it and Hodgson was lapping the bombs up and barely had to move.
If we are to be successful next season than Seymour has to be the first quality, fit half-back we have had since Cooke...or we will still be around the 7th/8th place mark.

Horne to Wakefield will be our best "recruitment" next season, were it to happen.

This would be the same Horne that made both our tries on Friday would it?

Horne would offer the club good cover at Centre and Full Back but that is all.
time for new blood in the halves as we've had 3/4 years of disappointments in that position.

in a game we lost, that he gifted posession via his abysmal kicking, yes, the same average Horne.

If you think we lost because of Horne then you weren't watching.
Anyway - this discussion has been done to death on here a thousand times. People have entrenched positions and aren't going to change their minds. Whatever the new coach decides to do with Horne is fine by me - at least we finally have decent options.

at no point did I blame Horne for losing the game, he is playing injured and I understand that, but even at his VERY BEST Horne is not a top class half back, never has been, never will be.

| I've been a little bit defensive of Horney in the past, he's been a great servant to the club and has always been a top pro unlike quite a few. But if we are to realise our ambition, than Richard is no longer the answer. He will be useful cover but shouldn't be guaranteed a starting spot any longer.

| He wouldn't be doing any of the kicking if either a) we had a coach that would recognise he is poor in this area or b) a fit 7 to play alongside him.
Horne was class the other night. Balmy comments on here.

Horney had a good game on Friday....
However my feelings on the matter are well documented, if we really want to be the best we need to improve in the h/backs.

No player should be guaranteed a starting spot.
If the halves stay as they are then I fully expect us to start with Seymour and Horne. After that it should depend on form and injuries. If some of the less believable rumours prove true and we sign Chase then I expect us to start with him and Seymour in the halves.
I'm just chuffed to have options there for the first time in years.

You're actually preaching to the choir on that one. The only thing that differs is our definition of who constitutes an improvement over Horne.

| I think this attitude is another hangover from Agar's tenure. We've become so accustomed to being told that it is purely down to your halfbacks to provide all of the sides organisation, attacking structure, creativity, and direction, that we're starting to forget that it's all a load of old codswallop. What's closer to the truth is that any coach worth his salt will provide most of that himself with the systems he gets the team as a whole playing to instead of relying on a particular player to do it for him and dig him out of a hole. If we've got the coaching appointment right it would make us a better, more creative attacking side even before adding Seymour to the mix.

I have conflicting views on Horne. He has been a great servant to Hull FC and a great pro, and a great guy as well. I find it difficult to be overly critical of Horne, however I've always been of the opinion that he doesn't have the necessary complete skill sets to make us as fluent in attack as we need to be in order to finish top of the tree.
Unless further signings are made then I agree with you it will be Horne and Seymour starting in the halves. Whilst I've heard we have made an improved offer for Chase I just dont see how we could afford to have someone like Horne as back up when we will have Ellis as well.
