RICHARD Agar will leave his position as head coach of Hull FC at the end of the season, the Mail understands.
The Black and Whites are believed to be preparing a statement which will this afternoon confirm the exit of Agar, with the search for his successor already underway.
Despite guiding FC to the play-offs this season, the 39-year-old has been told he will not be required for the final year of his contract.
Agar is expected to join Super League rivals Wakefield Trinity Wildcats before the end of the week.
Owner Adam Pearson has quickly appointed former coach Shaun McRae as director of rugby league to oversee player recruitment and help source a new head coach.
Agar has been with the Black and Whites since 2005 when he initially served as assistant coach to John Kear.
He continued to learn his trade in an understudy's role until May 2008 when he succeeded Peter Sharp in the FC hot-seat but his success has been limited during his three and a half year reign.
A Challenge Cup final appearance in 2008 was the highlight of Agar's tenure but after missing out on the Super League play-offs in 2008 and 2009, and losing to Hull KR in last season's do-or-die clash at the KC Stadium, supporters have voiced their concern over his leadership qualities.
FC are guaranteed their top-eight spot for the start of the 2011 play-offs this month after beating Castleford on Saturday but it will now be Agar's final chance of glory with the Black and Whites.

McRae as DOR?
Holy Crap!
Edit - this isn't one of those "write your own HDM story" stories is it?

| Firstly I am overjoyed with this news, we need a change and have done for a while and whoever comes in as DOR and Head Coach it will be great news and help us to hopefully achieve success and get us back up with the big boys. Well done AP for taking this step.
Secondly I would like to thank Richard Agar, he has been at the club for a number of years and always worked very hard for the club. He reign as head coach has not proved to be successful but he has brought through players like Briscoe/Houghton and recruited the like of Long, Fitzgibbon and Ogre.
Good luck for the future Rich.
As for us, exciting times!!!

May not have been a very good coach but I'm sure he did his best & didn't purposely make us lose games. Good luck to him wherever he ends up, I'm just glad he won't be here next year.
