| Hi all....just after some info on how we compare...
I was informed by a friend that he'd heard a interview with Kris Radlinski??
He stars that Wigan have never trained so hard as they do now under the coach. 0830 - 1630hrs 6 days a week....and intense.
The results show if true.....their worked pays are so much slicker than ours with options for ball carrier.
Any ideas how us and other other SL clubs train....
I know a few players in other SL clubs have good handicaps at golf so they must play a bit...
I would expect the Wigan working day would be the norm or a pro clubs surely??

| No way do they train that much, no days off and they'd be tired come gameday

| As cal says, No way because if they trained that hard they would have no energy left for the important 80 minutes that they'd trained for. I don't even think an Olympic athlete or an SAS soldier would need to train that hard.

| In fact look at josh charnley's Twitter, or tompkins', they're always tweeting so if they train that much they must run with their phones out a lot or you've been misinformed

| All the Wigan team were swimming a couple of hours before our match at the Village, did a fair amount of laps as well. I must say they looked more energised on Friday than our lads did over 80 mins.

| If you look at Dowes intensive pre season training in London a couple of years ago you'll find that multiple shorter sessions with sleeps &meals during the day are by far the most efficient way of achieving peak fitness.
Overtly long (low intensity) training sessions for endurance were found to be inneffective way back, just ask Emil Zatopek (well if were still alive)
Long distance running god but trained often doing high speed 100m sprints, high intensity interval training.
You can & should train 6 days a week but how much on each given day should be determined by the fitness coach & depends on other technical requirements and particular game day.

I heard that Charnley described training with Rovers as being like a holiday camp compared to Wigan's grueling regime.
Can't imagine the training at FC being more intensive either.

Of course you can train 6 days a week and be ready for match day...obviously a day or two closer to the game, training would become less intense and the day after is recovery but if you do it week in week out the body gets used to it and its not a problem.....as for 08:30 till 16:30 intense....i find that very hard to believe!!

| A training day doesn't need to be all physical does it? Having the players in at the club for longer periods and keeping them together whether training , doing skill sessions ( by god do we need more of that ) , doing video work or even R&R must help create a team spirit. Much better than just turning up doing a session/playing a game and going home. Probably easier to control those that are most likely to have lifestyle issues as well.

| Don't all players have to come in before training to have breakfast together everyday and do tests and get weighed a couple of times a week before training?
Haven't thought we looked unfit this year tbh, just that our skills aren't good enough.

I Personally dont think fitness has been an issue this season..theve had a go to the final whistle.....its been tactics and mentality thats done us...like iv said before, agar has to go as hes not bringing the best out of the players, his subs are bizzare etc but sometimes the players have to take some of the the flak aswell!!!

| I dont think it was portrayed as being beasted for 6 days a week, I kinda sussed that....but collective as a team at work....that could infact inc a multitude of sessions, match analysis, video, individual development programs, swimming, PR work etc etc....only asking cos thats what was put over to me and prompted the question?

| I don't think players could ever be considered overly fit. IF we want to have the best chance of winning then fitness plays a massive part of that. If you're fatigued you make mistakes so even if you had the skill & no-how in the first instance you'll look like a bag of e as you're too tired to perform. You fall off tackles, don't make the ground to a tackle.
personally I never get the impression that their fitness is an attribute, just that it's okay. I reckon we could raise it up a notch or two.
