| is it just me or is brent webb purposly trying to injure players who are in the action of scoring a try...
webb, when he clearly has no chance of stopping the diving player, seems to "go in" with knees, boots etc etc to try and dislodge the ball form the ball carriers hands,
i,personally think this is dangerous and really needs clamping down on....
its totally out of order in my opinion, but he is not alone, ive also witnessed wellens, and sam tomkins doing this aswell this season...
i think its only a matter of time before someone really gets hurt by a loose knee, boot or fist etc....
as for tomkins, what happend to him at bradford afew weeks back(raynor incident) should be a message to him to stop this vain attempt at knocking the ball out..
thoughts?????????

| Not sure about injuring players purposefully, but they did lose their heads on Sunday and are a team that do spit their dummies out.
Agree that it needs stamping out, but Leeds (Brent Webb) are not the only ones guilty.

| it happened in last weeks state of origin. The ref went to the video ref and decided that they should get 2 kicks at goal after scoring the try and not 1. Should implement it over here to.

Yep, some nasty and unnecessary efforts went in on Sunday. Hope we keep our discipline on Friday night as I doubt we'll get anything from the referee at Headingley.

The rule already exists, you just hardly ever see it used.

Indeed. At the risk of incurring the wrath of the Wigan fans, Sam Thomkins does it fairly often and one or two others as well. I'm not sure if it's just a poorly-executed and reckless attempt to dislodge the ball in the act of scoring but IMO it will lead to an injury sooner or later.
Not quite in the same class as that attack on Motu by Mathers in the 2005 CC final mind.

Indeed, some of us are old enough to remember the rule being used against us by Fred Lindop at Wembley 1980.

| Dirty, niggly display from Leeds on Sunday. Started as soon as they looked like losing. Not one citing from the RFL, though . Expect the same on Friday and next Sunday.

| It's been going on for ages. Didn't Motu get flattened in the 2005 CC final in the act of scoring by a Leeds player going in with a raised knee?

| The going in to stop a try feet first is the thing that needs stopping, how Webb has not got cautioned over how he tried to stop Raguin's try is shocking.

On a serious note, I think you're being very generous referring to them as attempts to dislodge the ball!
It's a problem that won't be addressed until somebody gets seriously injured.

| I think it is sort of human instinct to do this when it really matters, clutching at straws kind of behaviour as you get deperate, still no excuse though

Instinct to lead with your knees or studs?
Well my instinct was always to dive forward with hands/arms/shoulders, anything else IMO is foul play.. Raynor was harshly punished for making a genuine (albeit badly mistimed) attempt to dislodge the ball, if he had gone in with his studs showing or his knees and made contact then the end result could have been terrible.
In essence trying to effect a tackle with your knees or open studs is a binning/sending off offence, stopping a try scoring effort is absolutely no different.
As for the Motu Tony CC try when we watched the replay on the big screen I was going mental, I thought it sure a penalty kick under the sticks was going to be given? How Mathers got away with that I'll never know

| If you led with your knees in a tackle anywhere else on the pitch it would be a straight red, don't see why it should be any different just because it's over the try line. Raynor was dismissed (and rightly so) for his desperate attempt to prevent a try, the knees to the kidney is just as bad as a high shot, if not worse.
