Comical, but seriously, a wee bit far! Echo your comments though Wilf! Definitely needs backing! Afterall we have to be the largest Rugby League supporting city in England!

Whilst I don't wish to sound contrite I feel this whole back the bid thing is a waste of money. Are the RFL seriously looking to take games away from Hull, Wigan, Leeds, Huddersfield etc. We saw with the 2000 WC what a farce it was taking the games "on the road". Just announce that the final is at Wembley and the Semis at Wigan / Hull / Huddersfield. I suspect other football grounds will be off limits due to the time of year. Fill the stadiums and forget about bids etc. Games need to be where the game is supported and stands need to be full. As much as I admire Bristol's bid it will not attract fans unless we give tickets away en bulk. Even then a bit of bad. Weather (remember 2000) and there will be just a few hundred there.

Quite agree. The 2000 World Cup was something of a disaster. I recall the opening game in Belfast with Ireland taking on Samoa. Live on the BBC and it appeared that no-one was there.

Good to see Bristol taking an interest in our sport but if it gets a WC game and it's PNG v Cook Islands on a Tuesday night what sort of attendance are they going to get?
