[b:1g6itio7][color=#000000:1g6itio7]Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.; [/color:1g6itio7][/b:1g6itio7]:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_663.jpg

Its 3am in the Guildhall and Minns has lost his seat. The Lib Dems have been swept from power in Hull. We thought 3 gains, hoped for 6 and looks like taking all 12

Although I'm in the East Riding rather than Hull, this has made my day icon_biggrin.gif

Bye, bye Minns and the Lib Dems. They have paid the price for propping up the Tory government nationally.

My local councillor was a lib-dem, he did a fantastic job for us locally, BUT I had to look at the bigger picture. I am a council worker and can't risk losing my job if they stayed in power. Hopefully the Labour Party will stick to their pre-campaign promise of no compulsory redundancies. Will be well p*ssed off if they don't and be joining those made "compulsory redundant" last night.

How anyone can vote labour is beyond me; the mess our country in is because of them, not the Lib Dems/Conservatives. There wouldn't have to be huge cuts if labour didn't spend well beyond their means.

They vote Labour because they know that the economic problems in this country is exactly the same as the trouble thoughout the Western grabalots. These stupid people gambled on the stock markets to try and build their own purses....when stocks dropped to bottom did they pay---oh No, they relieded on the government to bail them out. It happened in the USA with EllieMay and followed on with Northern Rock in the UK. It was even worse for the likes of Ireland, Portugal and Greece. I still think that Spain too will pray that the likes of China will help them as the UK has with our banks. By the way, have you checked lately just what sort of bonus these very same gamblers have been awarded this year, all be in in the form of shares, which they will be able to turn into equity in the future. Do so and then try and blame the Labour Gov for the mess this country is in at the moment.

Labour want to get the deficit down by using true economic ways, ie get the defecit down over a slightly longer period by using a building program to get people back to work (earning money again and therefore paying tax into the country instead of taking more and more in benefit) and other such methods.

I'm sorry but speaking as an economist, labour cannot evade blame for the severity of the UK recession, the spent money to win votes while they should have been servicing the deficit , not increasing it. The over inflation of the public sector for vote winning purposes has led to the huge deficit, not to mention browns insistence at not regulating the financial sector

I'll hazard a guess that this is the first time you have lived under a Conservative administration. Give it another year to see what the extent of the public spending cuts are, in terms of loss of earnings and the consequent loss of taxation. This administration has already targeted the most vulnerable and will continue to do so, while their backers reap the benefits of lower taxation and a short-cut to dipping their hands in the public purse.

It's been over 30 years since I lived and voted in local elections in Hull and while I am pleased to see Labour doing well locally, I'll sound just one note of caution. Post WW2, Labour enjoyed virtually total control in Hull, this resulted in some of the most useless, self-promoting, so-called socialists ruling the city. I would hope that the brief period of LibDem control will ensure that the good people of the city never allow any party to achieve a similar situation.
