| I recently watched the under 20's play huddersfield and there were quite a few stand out youngsters for me...
The team was:
Reece Lazenby, Crawford Matthews, Ben Crooks, Nev Morrison, Reece Lynne, Jack Pickerill, Lee Williams, Josh Bowden, James Newton, Jack Aldous, Liam Kent, Liam Cunningham, Chris Green. Subs, Laurence Pearce, Ryan Spouse, Alec Norris, Danny Bloom.
Reece Lynn we all know about as he has already played for the first team and is a quality player...however...i saw a young lad called Reece Lazenby at Full Back and I must say, he excites me a lot. He reminds me of a lot of Tomkins or Wellens...and also Shaun Briscoe.
We lack an attacking FB since Briscoe has left imo. Whiting is too good a player to stick at full back imo. As clarky says he is a hell of a player in any position. Lazenby, however, could be one for the future. He scored a try and almost set up a second v hudders and he looks to attack the opposition as soon as he recieves the ball. He is a link up full back with great potential! he has played twice so far and has played really well both times. Hopefully no other super league team will pinch him before he makes the first team!
I hope he gets a chance in the first team because he really could be one for the future in what looks to be he natural position as a full back.
As i say there is some quality young players in the under 20's and fingers crossed people like reece lazenby will be given the chance to play in the first team.
Off to follow the under 20's away to wigan next before a few home matches so hope some of the faithful can come and watch the youngsters continue their impressive start to the season.
COME ON YOU ULLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

| How did Liam Cunningham play? The Hull players were raving about him in the off-season and tipping him to be the next to make the breakthrough.

| Are you saying Tomkins and Wellens are similar players or are you saying Lazenby is like a blend of the two because I would struggle to name two fullbacks in the modern game who are more dissimilar than those two?

| Thanks for posting about the U20s. The only time I see academy players in in the pre season friendlies, so good to get some opinion on who looks likely to step up.

| its a shame they dont get more attention until the first team is injury prone then we get the "youngster thrown in" type of situation. some of these guys have REAL potential and i hope fc realise this before they go elsewhere

It always disappoints me the lack of attention and coverage Academy and Reserve games get, and the crowds they attract from both a Rovers and Hull perspective.
I remember Dave Harrison once saying that there is more prestige in this city being a good amateur player than trying to make your way through the system in the pro set ups. Looking at the coverage that the HDM give our Conference sides and the crowds that Wests, Dockers, Skirlaugh and Easts attract he was probably right.

In the old days of the 3 tiers with the Alliance and Academy, I seem to remember the Alliance getting decent attendances (at Boulevard seemed to either be Weds night, free for passholders or the curtain-raiser for the 1st team game). Used to get a decent write-up in the HDM too. I think the timing and location of the games has plenty to do with it, it used to feel more joined up with the overall club experience. A casualty of the modern set-up IMO.

Yes, i used to be a regular at Hull A- team games mid-week at the Boulevard and the crowds used to be pretty good. I even watched a few from the Threepenny Stand but i was never fully accepted in there.

| i think if the big wigs were more involved the city, as a whole, would prosper. Hull has a massive rugby league pedigree and the talent we have, in abundance i might add, shows the potential for the future. i have seen many many games from the first team all the way down to schoolboys and its unbelieveable what we could have in the future. Leeds, saints, wigan etc all have fantastic youth programmes and this is now obvious for all to see with the players they have produced. I have done a bit of digging and Lazenby represented England in 2009 against the aussies...that shows his potential...and thats just one of the current under 20's. Lynn has made the step up to the first team and has shown he is more than capable of holding his own aswel....must be something about the name reece

Looking at that side it has real potential to develop. Like the look of the pack with Newton, Kent and Cunningham to add to the props discussed in the other thread of Bowden, Aldous and Green. Could be a monster FC pack for the next 10 years if they all develop.

| Is Jack Briscoe injured?
And I seem to remember that when Reece Lyne first broke through he was being touted as a centre. If he's playing Wing for the 20s does this spell the end for any ambitions of playing centre? Or are the other options just as good/ better than him?
Or I've just made all of that up!

I believe that Reece played centre last year but as he's seen as needing to play on the wing in the 1st team for this year at least theyve decided to play him wing in the 20s to support his development there. Not a long term strategy, just one that supports his familiarisation with the role etc.
