| We could do a lot worse for a back up.
However it would all depend on how much money he wanted.
Sure if he's worth a shot James Webster will be having a word with Agar about him as he'll have seen him first hand.
Seems to be doing well at widnes though. people may have resevations as we let him go previously but if your looking for a back-up youngish half back from the championship then he's got to be up there.

Indeed. Not sure why people think Thacks is the answer when he wasn't at the time. He's a running half too, we struggle for an organiser.

Better than no one and at the minute we have no one. Its a shambles that a professonal club like ours dont have a back-up 7. Imagine Man U going into a season with O'Shea in goal? I say get him now.

Exactly, if we had paid out for a top back up 6 and 7 at the start of the season instead of props etc we would have been hearing "cant believe dows , cussack and radford are all we have""
its a clear case of cash versus whats available at the time and to be honest who would have ever dreamed SL would have had such a torrid season with injuries??
AND WERE STILL 4TH !!!!!!

I don't think many have back up halfbacks just sat around waiting for a game, per se. Perhaps only Wigan have that luxury in Paul Deacon. Other teams do seem to have better back up options from moving a player into the halves than we do, though. Warrington have the option of switching Monaghan from hooker. Huddersfield have Luke Robinson. Saints have options in Moore and Roby. Leeds can use Sinfield. We have Washy/Berrigan, neither of whom are particularly effective in the role (Quins aside). None of which means that we should sign Anthony Thackery, of course.

wire also have bridge who is a very good squad player and competent right across the back line
Biggest problem we have is that we have 2 injury prone 1/2 backs who struggle to string more than a couple of games together.
Next season will be teh same and we'll no doubt re-sign horne for 2012 and beyond

I agree...however Whiting would have been my back-up but he had to go on the wing due to Calders.....I would honestly use Whiting as 6 next year he has great hands and a great rugby brain.

Yet none of our last 3 coaches have seen fit to play him in the halfs despite us having at least one half back injured or missing for the last 4 years

| Other people beat me to it, other teams (mainly the top teams surprisingly?) have at least 2-3 players who can lead their team around. While im indebted to the efforts of berro, Whiting, Washy and Turner at giving it ago in the backs this year, they dont have the same abilities in that position as the players at other teams stated above.
I know that you cant predict injuries and we seem to get more than our share in key positions but Agar must have know that we were going to have to play some one else at 7 this season for more than just a couple of games.
Are our reserve teams of such a standard that their no.7 cant be brought in? NRL teams are never afraid to do this but its not so regular in Britain. Is their Toyota Cup of a much higher standard?
