| while i think there has to be some limit as to how much each club can spend to prevent clubs with big financial backers buying all the best players.
so my suggestion is to reward clubs for being succesful at the turnstiles. by this i mean have a baseline average attendance of lets say 5000, and every 500 over that allows that club to spend extra on the cap, lets say by £50,000 for the following season. this way the fans can vote with there feet and have a direct influence as to how much money there club can spend on players.
obviousley im just plucking these figures out of the air but you get the drift. also it would potentially get the fans attending that only go when there team are winning (me included sometimes).
Also i think away fans should be taken into account (this would mean away fans going through seperate turnstiles), and it would make all the hard earned money that we spend on away trips seem sweeter.
i know its a bit radical but i think it would make the fans feel so much more part of there club.
i await the flak
Andy

| I would imagine too open to abuse, how could the league trust the attendance reported by the club.

fair point but whos to say that clubs are giving correct attendance figures at the mo to pay less income tax ect. im not an expert at turnstile technology, but would have thought that they are pretty reliable.
i didnt say it would be easy, but just the thoughts of a fan who would like to be a bigger part of his clubs success.

| Best thing they had about the salary cap was the 50% of turnover rule. they should never have got rid of it. It's a joke that clubs get points on the franchise assessment for being solvent when they lose ££££'s a season and only survive because they're propped up by wealthy fans. Problem is it never lasts forever as we all know

You could do at Salford and Quins!
The problem with this is that the big clubs will get bigger, (Hull FC, Wigan, Leeds, Saints and Warrington) and the smaller clubs will pale into insignificance. There is only a limited supply of 'dead wood' for the smaller clubs to feed on, and the big clubs can cherry pick the talent, same as they do now, but with less resistance

Agreed. The benefits of the fixed £ salary cap are it evens up the competition on the pitch and it's easier to audit. If you've got a live cap at 50% you never really know what your turnover is until you've finished the season and therefore how much you have to spend (unless you did it based on the previous year's turnover, for example). But the downside as you say is it means clubs with unsustainable business models.

| would you have suggested this if hull had have been one of the clubs with a low average?
Why not reward clubs that play in black and white instead?

| Talking of attendances, did anyone see the crowd at last nights Crusaders v Quins game
That has to be somewhere near the lowest Super league crowd ever.

| its a nice idea, but in practice won't work. Far too many ways to 'cheat' the system and lie about gates.
also big clubs with vast finances could let fans in for a £ to get a big gate and a big cap.
I think the current system works, the challenge is to get the smaller teams up to a 10k average.

| The 50% should be brought back asap !! Getting rid of it was a joke and was a major factor in our little neighbour's survival in SL. They were the first side to be able to come up and spend money that they couldn't afford.

At least it was easy to understand. There could be no real confusion anyway. It should be brought back, with the franchise systems it makes more sense than ever.
