Does anyone know what you can put on glass to act as a protection for autographs,i know someone who has some signed nrl framed pictures,its the ones with little post cards of each player in the frame but the signatures are on the glass infront of each one, just worried the pen could rub off in time.

I believe you can buy some kind of spray paint to protect them

I have done a lot of work with old manuscripts and documents and the killer is moisture and light. Eliminate these and that should be a job done and a little tip if you want to keep autographs................

Use pencil I have seen pencil writing perfect from the 17th century, but ink writing becomes illegible very quickly due to fading and any moisture.

You need some kind of resin spray wolfie, but the problem you'll have is getting it to adhere to the glass surface, especially if it's glass that has some other treatment already on the surface (anti-glare, matting etc.)

Just thought of another issue, be careful what accelerant is used to deliver the spray, it may be a solvent that will actually cause the signature to wipe away, likewise the carrier solvent for the resin coulld also do this.

They rarely use any chemicals in preserving old documents as you need to know what sort of reaction you get from any film you put over it. The majority of documents are stored flat, dry and devoid of light and have been for centuries.

How do you think the Magna Carta has lasted so long or even the Doomsday book, the monks knew how to it even a thousand years ago
