| Hi folks, probably been done before but was wondering if anyone has any memories of the Hull Lada Vikings meetings at the Boulevard. I have some good early years memories of the place. As the only Black & White in a family full of Dobbins fans, I think my regular visits to the Boulevard helped me see the light. And no I don't own any airhorns or sponge fingers before asking!!! (First thread post be gentle please)

| Used to go to speedway at boulevard in the 70's, of the many crashes i saw theres one that always sticks in my mind, strangely enough it happened on the straight on the threppenny stand side and the rider actually ended up in the stand, not 100% but think it was phil crump, father of current rider jason crump.

I thought that was Tom Owen who crashed?
Tina Charles was the main music played but cannot remember its title.
Ivan Mauger.....league of his own.

| The Boulevard was THE place to watch Speedway.
Loved it when I was a nipper.... and that smell was unique.

Yeah, my dad used to take me in the late seventies. Whenever a bike goes past now with that fuel-mixture, it takes me back. I used to stand near the old clubhouse, watching the riders coming in and out, and had my picture taken with Ivan Mauger. Somewhere, I've got a signed programme from a meet in 1978. How often I came home with the hood of my parka full of grit.

| 50p to get in on a Wednesday? night for kids or wait until they opened the Airlie Street gates near the wood yard at about half time for the kids as they did for the rugby too,
The smell, the grit and wearing the goggles stick out the most.
Bobby Beeton was my favourite rider and i remember Vikings having Egon Muller the current world champion at the time,
He was always announced at the beginning of every meeting but i can't remember him actually being there or ever riding.

| Egon Muller rode for the Vikings in 1976 he was the world long track champion at the time, He did go on to be world speedway champion at a later date.
Joe Owen rode for the vikings as a signed rider ,His brother Tom (Taffy ) Owen used to guest ride for the Vikings.
ethanol was the fuel used that creates that wonderfull smell. Happy days indeed.
