Ah Van got 5 games for a tackle that was not as bad and not as intentional.
Pretty typical tbh, it was this type of head strike that the RFL banned shoulder charges for, it's ridiculous that the severe end of the scale like this is punished in such a fashion

There was significant risk there would be contact with opponents head.

However taking into consideration the player was dismissed from the field in the first half of the game, the fact he has accepted his guilt and his exemplary record within the game over a long period of time this tribunal feel that a 1 match suspension and a £300 fine are appropriate.'" |

Of course the exlempary record exists largely as a result of his and his club's inflated status which prevents on and off field officials penalising or citing him for his many misdemeanours , notably high shots , which other players are done for as a matter of course. It stinks and is laughable. It was a bad tackle and his status in fact warrants him being made an example of to ensure the right message is put out to "lesser" players and the process is seen to be fair. |
