If you can't do your job because of stress then perhaps you shouldn't be doing it in the first place, too many people think the world owes them a living.
If Martin Gleeson has things going on in his personal life that need sorting out then by all means take time off work to sort them out but don't call it stress and set a timetable for that to happen and Martin to return to work.
Speaking generally, not about Martin Gleeson, we waste far too much money pandering to people who claim to be stressed and it seems an easy way out, especially since weak GP's seem only too willing to sign people off work for it. I know recently of a nurse who split up with her boyfriend and a doctor signed her off for a month for stress. We all payed for that and it was totally unnecessary. Modern life these days is pretty easy, we don't want for much and what we don't have the government generally gives us. A little perspective and more personal responsibility is needed.'"
Are you a Doctor or Mental Health Nurse ? Thought not.
1-5 people in this country will suffer with Mental Health problems in their life's, there are no rules as to who will suffer it can strike any-one. Many things can trigger a mental health problem and it can manifest itself in many ways often stress, anxiety and/or depression. GPs are not weak like you imply, as there are so many people suffering GPs are more than capable of diagnosing, believe me there are very clear signs...There is sadly still a lot of stigma and ignorance attached to mental illness which really does not help clients.
It matters very little what may or may not have triggered Martins illness, what matters is he is given full support in his recovery.
I wish him all the best in his recovery.

| I'm glad this thread has stayed open, apart from one comment it has not required any moderating. Especially when compared to threads on the Wire and Wigan forums.

| Quote: Sebasteeno "No ones doubting that Standee but in all honesty it sounds like after leaving Wigan he needed to take time away from the game and get himself right. Instead, FC waved a wad of cash in his face and he couldnt say no which in my mind doesnt show the player or the club in the best of light. If he leaves then it was all pointless. If he stays but doesnt play for ages then what was the point again? All seems a bit of a mess with of course FC in the middle of it yet again'"
imo he came back into the public domain too soon........may have been better if he had the willpower to say no to the cash Hull showed him.

If you have the minerals to make that known the next time you need medical attention, then I fear for your safety. Of course you could always get a nurse / doctor who's mind is not 100% focused on giving the right treatment / dosage of drugs as they are mentally all over the place due to a personal trauma to look after you

or maybe he'd have been better off if Wigan had looked after him?
it seems Martin is fortunate he's come to a club that takes responsibility for the physical and mental wellbeing of it's staff seriously.

the difference must be in the wording of his contracts at Wigan, and Hull.
part of the Wigan clubs statement when we released him was.."breaches of club discipline"..iirc

Now stop embarrassing yourself by displaying your ignorance.'"
How do you know I am ignorant ? Just because I don't share the same view as you ?
Are you saying its right that the taxpayer should pay someone to sit at home for a month because they have split up with their boyfriend, or pay a teacher for a year because its too noisy in their classroom or because they just failed their Ofsted inspection ? I am certainly not ignorant of those.
As I said, if people have serious issues they need to take care of, meet them head on, sort them as best as possible and crack on. If you can't handle it then maybe you need to change jobs or change your situation.

| Different folks different strokes ,things affect different people different ways .This topic should be locked .Stress affects people of all ages and from all different types of back ground .I had a relation who was suffering from stress no one knew .Sadly he is no longer with us .Leave Martin Gleeson alone to sort his own troubles out . I imagine he will pay us back as a club next season
Hull Fc are doing the right thing by standing by him

| We seem to be getting further and further away from the subject now so I think maybe it's time to leave this here. The majority of posts are in support of Martin and the club and there isn't much more we can say about it at this time.
Lets hope he gets well and we see him back soon doing what he does best on the pitch.
Thanks.
