it's harder for a ball playing back to come back as soon, he'd need 100% movement back in it. A forward could get away with lots of strapping. Cordobas was a really bad one tho.

Saw Longy on Kingston road yesterday with his family.....had nearly all his arm strapped up....couldnt tell if it was bandage or a cast as i was driving....he looked ok in himself.

It wouldn't shock me at all if longy is back for playoffs. He alway came back just in time for challenge cup semis/finals and playoffs and grand finals.

After watching the replays today, I still maintain that it was totally unnecessary for Willie Manu to put a shot on! Had all the time in the world to see that Long had lined him up.

So what? Just because someone else might make the tackle doesn't mean you then can't go for a big hit. In fact, big hits often come about because the ball carrier is expecting to be hit by someone else and it is the surprise impact from a different angle that increases the chance of the ball being lost. Manu's done it countless times in similar situations over the years and will rightly continue to do so.

Seen the replay and it looks like one of those freak incidents that could have happened anytime. No blame at all for Manu.

Hope to see Longy back soon and certainly in time for the playoffs

Its about as bad as I have ever seen, he will not play again this season thats for sure.

plans are in place that unfortunately scupper half back signings although as back up we could be discussing a half back soon who wants to come closer to home again (just down the M62) than his current lodging darn sarf !!!

Not sure about it...would take a lot of PR for Judas to be accepted back into the hearts of the faithful..besides he has been pants since he left (deserted!!) us.

Our two h/backs managed 5 games...who would or could have called that one

What is the latest on the injury front ?

Mark O'Meley didnt look in a good way hobbling around at Wests on saturday. Would be amazed if he is ready for weekend.

I think it's already been confirmed that he's out for another 2/3 weeks at least

Would the rules allow for Webster to register as a player for the short term?

We've not had a halfback pairing for three years now.

2007 Cooke leaves, we replace him with Matthew Head. Decent player, but so injury prone that he couldn't train mos of the time.

2008 Dykes. Decent player for us when he was fit. However, he never was fully fit and missed a fair few games.

2009 Thorman. We all knew he was a stop gap signing, but nobody expected him to be that awful.

2010/11 Long. Once again an injury prone player, whos had a big injury in nearly every season for the last 10 years. Quality when fit.

I love Longy and his current injury was abit of a freak accident. It's just annoying that the management team have not signed a backup halfback throughout this time (whilst signing injury prone players), and having nobody ready from the U20's currently.

How many players fulfill the role of backup sh at any SL club? Deacon at Wigan. Anybody else? The best you can hope for is a utility hooker/hb like Obst or Leuleuai or a playmaking stand-off like Briers. Berrigan might, just, fit into the first category, Horne doesn't fit into the second.

We'd have the same problem if Dobson was out - our hookers are just hookers and our options at SO are forwards.

If a player is a halfway decent SL 7, he can be first choice somewhere. If he's not that good, then is there really any value in including him in the squad? And he'd most likely be happier [iplaying[/i in the championship. I thought at the time Thorman was a decent signing as a reserve 7 (I assumed then you'd keep one of Dykes or Webster) - that is about as good as you are going to get as a back-up. In which case why not just hope for good fortune and switch Tansey/Berrigan when lady luck lets you down?

Doesn't have to be a backup SH though, a creative player at least can do a job there. Take Hudds they have a plethora of playmakers who could step in an do a decent job if needs arose.

Huddersfield are very well covered in that area; Nathan Brown has done a good job with his squad. Most team are not that lucky.
