Think I must be watching a different Seymour to some people as I personally think he has gone really well so far, the fact he is a better left to right passer has given us more balance and is why our right side is looking more effective compared to previous years.

My only knock on him is that he doesn't seem all that mouthy on the pitch.

I'd agree with that, i've noticed he also gives up the chase a little to easy when beaten, but hes always done that.

I agree with that, he does talk but doesn't bark as other halves do. I've been impressed by him.
Fans are fickle, a lot seem to be understanding of McKinnon's situation but don't realise Seymour is still adapting to life over here too. This season is one of transition, that includes a settling in period for the imports. I also think its harder for backs to settle in to our conditions than it is forwards, Finch being a prime example, solid last year but been excellent this.

This is what I keep saying. Halfbacks tend to need longer to settle, very few come in and hit the ground running. Add to that we have had a lot of changes to the squad and the coaching set up it was always gonna take time. He has done well for me and looks the part, they key now is to get the right halfback partner. I don't think him and Horne suited each other.

Finch is a great example, Wigan fans were not impressed last season but think he's outstanding this season.

Exactly what I've been saying about Seymore. Half back is the most difficult position to adapt to for overseas players, as the example you gave of Finch. He will come good of he gets a good injury free run from now until the end of the season

I haven't seen anyone say he hasn't 'gone well', just that he's not a top class halfback. There are loads of posters on here who want Horne replacing because he's just a 'good' stand off - not one that can take us to the level of being able to win the competition. Well, to me, Seymour is exactly the same. He's a decent player, but not one that any of the top teams would covet.

That would be my view of Seymour. People are happy with him because our halfback options have been so poor for so long, and he's been fairly consistent without setting the world alight. He has has come in and done a decent job and hasn't missed a huge number of games, which, granted, is a marked improvement on what we've had previously. I just don't think it'll be enough to win us anything.

Who would you like to see us realistically sign that you would class as a top halfback.

Dunno. I wouldn't have 'realistically' expected us to sign Ellis, but we did. And I'm not saying we should get rid of Seymour for the sake of it - that would be foolish. I merely expressed the view that, if the rumours about him wanting away (or was it that Gentle wanted rid?) are true, it wouldn't [inecessarily[/i be a bad thing.

I think we should give him time to find his feet before we judge, needs at least a season IMO.

As I said before, neither Dykes nor Head were what you'd call settled, but you could see their ability quite clearly. And that was under a lesser coach than Gentle. I don't want to give the impression that I'm knocking Seymour - I'm not - but so many on here are quick to point out that we won't win anything with Horne at 6, and I really don't think Seymour is any better. Both are 'good', neither are top class.

His long range kicking game?

Whilst I agree that top class players usually shine through a bit more than Seymour has, I wouldn't go so far as to say that Seymour isn't better than Horne. Yes, both are more 'good' than top class, but Seymour is closer than Horne (whilst it's still not as good as I'd hoped, his long kicking game is better, his hands are much better, and he looks more dangerous taking a set defensive line on). With the right partner we could see a big difference.

Perhaps you're right. I don't subscribe to the view that some people have advanced, that we should keep him for the sake of stability, or whatever, though. If he wanted to go and we could replace him with someone better, we absolutely should do that. So what if it means changing both halfbacks in the same off-season?

Depends on the system you use, really. In some ways if you're going to change one halfback it's not that much more disruptive to change both, as you're still going to have 2 new pivots adapting to each other. If we're going to stick with our rigid one half to each side of the field (which personally I'd rather we didn't), however, it is more disruptive, as you've then got the entire team having to learn how to play with them, rather than it being predominantly just one side.

I would agree that if we could replace him with someone better we should, that's always the case with any player, but the thing is that I really think we'd struggle to do so. We should remember that to replace him with someone better it's not now a case of finding [ione[/i halfback better than him, we'd need to find [itwo[/i. That's almost impossible in one close season with other clubs on the lookout as well.

I never said it would be easy to find two new halfbacks, but then I wouldn't expect the club to let him go unless they had a replacement lined up that would improve the squad.

on Seymour, I think he hasn't had much luck with injuries, he seems to just get a bit more settled then miss a game or 'carry a knock' and sink a bit, still overall he's been getting better with more game time, by next season he'll be well settled imo and back to good form.

the fact he came back from injury at warriors last year to find he'd been forced out by Shaun Johnson, which isn't anything to be ashamed of the kid's the new Benji, means he probably dropped a bit of form when playing for the vulcans.

I quite agree. It will take a lot of negotiating to get one decent half nevermind two. Of course we should always replace players with better quality if we can. I personally feel Seymour had done well so far and will improve, especially with the right partner.

Looks like no partner at all might be an option, too.
