It wasn't leniency, it was a close call.

| Good luck to the guy with whatever he's going through, the details of which are clearly none of our business. RL is fairly irrelevant by comparison, and we all need to remember that.
Stress and depression remain a bit of a taboo in sport (see Mr Bore-cott's comments during cricket World Cup for instance), even more than in other forms of employment. It's a bad enough situation to be in, but I can't imagine that having to be in the public eye at the same time is a big help. A stigma needs to be removed.
Well done to the club for supporting him, I like to hope any club would do the same, but you never can tell. And if I'm not much mistaken, the Hull Daily Mail's move actually looks like a rare example of responsible journalism, as I don't think stupid rumours are in anyone's interests.

| Maybe I am too old fashioned but as someone who sees how easy it is for people to waste thousands of pounds of their employers money by taking time off for stress I think in a lot of instance its an easy way out. If you can't do your job because of stress then perhaps you shouldn't be doing it in the first place, too many people think the world owes them a living.
If Martin Gleeson has things going on in his personal life that need sorting out then by all means take time off work to sort them out but don't call it stress and set a timetable for that to happen and Martin to return to work.
Speaking generally, not about Martin Gleeson, we waste far too much money pandering to people who claim to be stressed and it seems an easy way out, especially since weak GP's seem only too willing to sign people off work for it. I know recently of a nurse who split up with her boyfriend and a doctor signed her off for a month for stress. We all payed for that and it was totally unnecessary. Modern life these days is pretty easy, we don't want for much and what we don't have the government generally gives us. A little perspective and more personal responsibility is needed.

| I agree Steve, I once worked with a bloke who's misses left him with the kids.
He claimed he was emotionally shot but the doc wouldn't sign him off and he couldn't afford to live without working.
He hung himself.

I take if you've never suffered from stress, let alone anything approaching a total breakdown, I hope you remain that lucky. I know of people who were within an hour or so of the next time their parents seeing them would be to identify the body.

| Im not doubting that the guy is suffering from a stress related illness but why did we even bother signing him when both Warrington and more especially Wigan got rid without a worry about the guy? He's basically come here, played a couple of decent games then gone off the boil and then gone on sick with us as a club picking up the pieces when nobody else could or would and especially the team he played for in the grand final last year. Someone must of seen this coming at FC as they certainly did at Wigan or was they that busy creaming themselves about him coming here that they just ignored the potential problems that could arise from him signing.

Yay another "expert".
Its atitudes like that caused one of my best mates to hang himself 18 months ago.

Just because other clubs perhaps treated him badly isn't a justification for your club to treat him in the same way.
I can't understand why you aren't proud that your club is doing the right thing and standing by him in a supportive way when he most needs it.

| I have a very responsible and stressful job, I deal with it. If I can't deal with it then maybe I need another job, I am not entitled to that job and I work hard to ensure I keep it, I get paid pretty well and try to ensure that I earn that money. That's my responsibility.
If my missus left me with the kids then I would deal with it too, yeah I would feel sorry for myself but you have carry on, to be honest when I have had issues in my personal life the best place to be is work, takes your mind of it.

Something else to beat them with, you should know the club can do no right according to some.

| the people having a dig at Gleeson should ask themselves if their opinion would be the same if it was Yeaman, or Horne.
It amazes me that the "keep battling on" mentality remains, stress and depression are very, VERY, awful things to suffer.

I think if it was any other player people wouldn't be so annoyed.
