the thing with ellis yes he will be 22 but hasnt played super league apart from 2 games a couple of years ago and to be expected to lead us around might not work out great give him a year where he can back up both halfback spots and get a good feel to where he needs to be at super league level, id be dissapointed if we go into the new season with ellis as starting 7

Pay Long off now. The pay off to be minimal in return for a contract next season with a coaching element in it essentially using him as cover/mentor. Get Ellis in now using the space on the cap created by paying Long off. This season has gone to all intents and purposes and having Ellis in won't make us any worse whether he's ready or not. We may learn something and we may even be pleasantly surprised. Longy says he owes the fans and there were indications from Murdoch on RH that he knows he can't demand big money so if he's being honest maybe he'd go along with it.

Let's give him a go.

I'm sick of us signing/developing young players and not playing them.

but to go into next season expecting ellis to be our 7 and lead us around the park could go either way but for me i would be looking at a player like jeff robson whos looking for a move over here with ellis backing up both halfs so any injury or loss of form he comes straight in. ideally it would be great to get ellis now and see if hes ready or not but could be dangerous expecting him to lead this club around the park

but thats why im saying lets sign someone like robson who is more experienced and maybe better quality and allow ellis to drift in and out of the team to see wether he can at this level ect

Robson is no world beater thats a fact. A waste of a quota spot unless we're really desperate.

Seymour is trouble; the kind of player we've been trying to get rid of.

I would rather use our cap and quota on a top forward.

That's why if we pay Longy a minimal amount this year and back load it onto next years contract we'll create space on the [isalary cap[/i ,ie , the whole point of my post!!

His contracts already lodged with the rfl.

Why would you want to give long another season?

Its my understand that as soon as you pull on a pair of boots your full wage goes onto the cap so this wouldn't work, and that's why we breached it before because Andy lasts salary As a coach went onto the cap as soon as he played a game.

We're between a rock and a hard place. ellis is on a 2 year contract and hasn't been signed to sit in the 20's for 2 years. the plan was presumably to sign long for another year and to gauge ellis' progress during that time to see if he was capable of being our 1st choice 7 moving forward. If he was great, if not we had long and obst contract money to find someone who was. No decent scrum half will sign for 12 months so I'd be surprised if we bring one in. obst/ellis and horne in the halfs next year I reckon

Daniel Anderson had Saints playing some of the greatest rugby I've ever seen, Superb attack with a mean defence. But he did have players that could catch , Pass , Support in numbers , Dummy runners , Quick play the ball , Good defensive Line speed ect ect.
It would be like starting with an u9's side for him if he was to come here.
