That is an excellent point - I must admit I'd overlooked that. As we reduce our oversees signings we need to look on our own shores and the number of high-quality players is not great. This gets us through two years (at least) whilst we develop a scrum-half with his (hopefully) excellent guidance.

HE It would be an absolute disaster.

this is the man who walked out on a GB tour becuase he was tired.

He now wants a two year deal because he wants the money and is preparing for retirement. He has no heart left for the game other than playing for Saints and winning a trophy.

have you seen his goalkicking this season he is missing them in front of the sticks.

I would rather the money be spent on someone who is HUNGRY, or PROFESSIONAL enough to put in his best every wek. Menzies or Brett Hodgson are model pros who will always give 100%. Someone like Long is not what we need. he is not a model professional and is just looking to make some money

Thoroughly sensible post. I seem to remember Alfie Langer was 36 when he played his final season for Brisbane (2002?), and he played Origin for Queensland that year too. I have no concerns over Sean's age at all. Exactly the kind of on field playmaker we have been lacking.

There's a great deal of space between 'cheap' and 'beggars belief' though.

Another risky injury potential signing who is past his sell by date but on the positive a 50% Sean Long is better than what we've currently got. Will he join the coaching staff, he offers direction and leadership if somewhat dubious at times reminds me of Shaun Edwards who has continued to impress even though his playing days are over. Is he been lined up as a replacement for Radford, presence, capataincy etc?
