Do you think Heremaia could be our first choice 7 ?
Houghton is surely the favoured hooker and has so far managed this season on his own so we can't have signed Aaron Heremaia for no reason. I expect Long to retire at the end of this season and I would hope Heremaia is good enough to replace him and Obst will be back up hooker/scrum half'"
heremaia is a far better 9 than he is a 7 so i would expect ellis and obst to be sharing the role next year imho

If he's our 1st choice 7 next season then they aren't getting my season pass money.'"
Don't think people talked him up as such, just said he would be a useful signing as an impact hooker and back up to Horne/Long. I don't recall people saying they wanted him as first choice SH.
They might not get mine either.

Has to be Ellis as he is the only one who is a scrum half, at least we would have a kicking game.
Not ideal, but the best option as it know looks thanks to Agars poor recruitment again.

| I fully expect Sean Long to be offered an extension on his contract for 2012. If the intention is for him to coach ellis then its not such a bad idea. His salary needs to be significantly lower than now though

It needs to be said that we have not yet completed our recruitment so maybe a bit hasty to judge entirely.

but if a halfback is signed where does that leave obst, we pay a transfer fee and give him a 2 year deal on a decent conctract.

| Hope I'm speaking too early and we have an ace up our sleeves, but it looks once again like we have sold the most crucial position short with either young rookies or hookers/stand-offs squashed into not-quite-fitting-the-bill.
Why?
But then the same could be said of the coaches job, I suppose. We simply don't seem to want to speculate to accumulate, as Jimmy said. What a bizarre way to run a business.

Getting rid of Long serves no purpose whatsoever.

it does, it means nobody has the rediculous idea that he is worth another season.

| If Ellis won't be ready next season, when he'll be 22, then I think he's a poor signing. People learn best in different ways (watching, listening, doing), but he'll likely learn a lot more playing than being mentored (even by a modern great) - IMO.
Give him a little bit of patience and he could really blossom - especially relative to the rest in SL, as the old guard retire and those in their prime look at big money in the NRL.

Long is OOC at the end of this season. No need to get rid, just don't offer him a new contract. Simples.
