| I really am not trolling but surely you can see that sean Long is a shadow of the player he was. He will no doubt be an improvement to the current waster who is impersonating a scrum half, but OMG, the money that he will have cost beggars belief. If it was believed by saints that he was worth 2 years they would have gave him it..but they didnt. I think you might get a few decent games out of him but a big big mistake again....

| Excellent signing, i would rather have Sean Long at his age and with his experience and skill then some over-rated Aussie.

| Great signing, but if he gets injured then we are back in the piggy poo.
I would like us to now sign someone like Finch, who is a SO but can play SH. Horne at full back, and if Motu stays utility.
If Long got injured, then Finch to 7, Horne to 6 and Motu at full back.

If the only other changes we were to make was to sort out our use (or lack of) of dummy runners and increase our support play, I think it would still make a huge difference to our attack.'"
I'm not convinced that the arrival of Long alone will bring that but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

| i think its a top buy in my opinion great kicking game and runs some great lines. Maybe the start of something new and good at this club! Adds a bit of spice for fridays game. I can imagine a round of "theres only one sean long" Around the KC stadium!

No, I don't mean the arrival of Long would make that happen. It needs a big attitude change in our coaching, and then to be implemented properly. All I'm saying is that if we did get that change, we don't need a great deal of players to come in for us play an open style of rugby. Admittedly we're a few short of being able to match Saints and Leeds for it, but if we're honest we're now at the stage where we need to catch the likes of Hudds and Rovers in terms of attacking ability, which these changes could do IMO.

| Good signing, hopefully a few more to go with him. Huge improvement on Thorman. Long is still one of, if not the best SH in the league for me and I think GB look much worse without him.
He's exactly what we needed, an experienced player whose kicking game, passing game and organisational skills are all top-notch and I for one hate him when he plays against us. Hopefully we get a world class 6 or 1 aswell as a prop (Lynch would be another great signing)

Hopefully agar's told them both he's leaving before next season then.
In 2 minds about this signing. Great player in his day but his best days are behind him and he's struggled with injuries in the last couple of years. Other issue is if we don't change our style of play he'll be a waste of money. It's easy to look goo behind a dominant saints pack with willing runners all over the place but with our pack and lack of runners he'll struggle IMO. Nothing against him as I believe any scrum 1/2 will struggle whilst laurel and hardy are in charge.
Also interesting that none of the ozzie scrum 1/2's we've enquired about have agreed to come over (for us!)

So .... are FC in the HUNT for a new fullback?

| Not really a great signing for me. At 32 he is past his best and will be more prone to injury (He will fit in well then)
However it is good to see they have signed a player in a position we have been lacking in all season.

| Long is still the best 7 in this country by far imo and thats including the current imports,
He still has pace and an eye for a gap and i don't think 9 months will take this away but for me his biggest attribute is his unpredictability,
theres many a time when he has come up with a howler but this never bothers him, five minutes later he will create something out of nothing and score or make you some points.

| We have needed a scrum half for bloody ages....he has won 3 lance todd awards, endless G/Finals,a few c/cup finals,GB and england caps.......helped Sts to numerous hub caps and league victorys.....cant for the life of me see what he will offer us.
Some people are never happy.....i would sooner he be playing for us than against us.......good signing imo.

Only a few days ago on here it was 'no way' or 'we don't want him' or 'past it'
Make your minds up.
FWIW, I think he is still a very good player, but it will be interesting to see HOW good he is when he is in a team light years behind the one he came from. He never cut it in a GB or Wigan shirt.

| I'll resevere judgement until I see exactly who else we sign for next season. If he has been signed at the right price and we spend cash on some real quality elsewhere in the squad, then maybe this could prove to be a decent signing.
Must admit that I was initially a little underwhelmed though.

A couple of years of poor recruitment have resulted in when you make an average signing its rejoiced. You had the opportunity to sign a top class S/H at their peak of their career admitadly would have needed to be an Aussie, but instead they took the short sighted option. I was going to say cheap but dont think Longy will come cheap. He is not excactly a signing to build a future SL winning team around is he ? I think you will get 1 half decent season out of him and you will be in the same situation this time next year'"
I agree with this man here and a few others who have responded with less enthusiasm.
Long is yet another player who has given his best years to another club. FC should be swigning players about to come into their own so that WE can have their best years. I'm also fed up with the phrase 'if he can stay injury free' - it seems that it's been said about most signings over the last year.

would I have liked to him to have been younger? of course...but hopefully we will use him effectively and let Horne do all the running whilst Long organises
