I don't think he is a utility player, he's always tries his best in any postilion he plays but he's by far a better back rower.

I think he will play there next year.

Why is Bomber to blame for this signing? This is clearly a Gentle/Hay recruit as the both now him well.

Usually leave it 'til the close season to speculate on Whiting's game time for next season don't we ? Whiting is a much better all round player than Westerman in my opinion and I'd pick him ahead of Westerman at loose forward every day of the week.

I agree totally. negatives: a bit of a penalty giver, bad attitude, positives: aggresive, hard to handle on his day, bad loser.
A bit of the old Gentle coaching should shape him up, wait and see is what I say.

I just don't see the logic in this signing especially for 2013 aswell.

I know we can't have every signing being a top quality one but McGoldrick!!! Thats really scrapping the bottom of the barrel unless he has come on a very small deal cash wise I just can't see any advantage to us apart from experience.

Having said that Andy Hay must know something of the guy from working closely with him at Cas so time will tell if he turns out to be one of the worst in history or performs ok in the Black & White irregular hoops

Are we not allowed to question his judgement He may turn him into a valuable asset for the club, and I hope he does, but that does not mean Peter Gentle is beyond reproach.

Disagree slightly with that. I think he [idid[/i need appointing in the first place when Pearson was still working at City and had limited RL experience. Now that Pearson is full time at FC I wouldn't be surprised to see Bomber leave at the end of the season as his position now seems redundant to me.

Corporate responsibility for this signing IMO. I can only assume our injury situation is a lot worse than has been made public and this is a case of 'needs must'. Still very unhappy with it, mind. Difficult to believe we couldn't come up with a better option than Captain Tatoo.

Left it until this morning to post on this signing as I must admit I'm stunned by it. That said I'll reserve judgement and wait and see where and how he plays when he pulls on the B+W. I know we have a good coach so there must be a good reason. I certainly don't agree that we would have been better keeping Ellis as this clearly isn't a like for like swap in position terms - it seems we are desperate for more bodies in other positions right now and this is the result. ATEOTD I'll comment again after he's played 5 games for us - he does have good and bad attributes but it's not beyond the realms of possibility that he might improve us in certain areas.

Ellis has been rubbish for us and clearly Gentle's ed off with his fitness and/or attitude.

Your point was none of Gentle's signings have let him down. I pointed out that actually they have, whether that’s on the field or not. IMO Aspinwall has been ok on in defence but that's about it. Doesn't give much go forward. An average player for what appears to be another average year for the team. Same old story.

I'm questioning everyone's judgement. And I think both Gentle and Hay are pretty familiar with McGoldrick.

No one is over-reacting to this. Absolutely appalling signing. Until the end of the season could almost be understood, but 18 months is more than ridiculous. Looking at the Super League table, who else would possibly want to sign him? This shows where we are as a club right now!
