| Quote: carl_spackler "Been reflecting on how to put my thoughts tastefully. Obviously, from a Hull FC point of view, I see Agar's departure as good news, but it's still unkind to revel in somebody losing their job. I do still genuinely believe that he worked hard and tried his best, he just wasn't up to it. I agree with MMJ that the previous board did him no favours in the eyes of the supporters by keeping him on for too long and basically made him a target of fans' increasing anger and frustration, so much so that he was beyond the point of salvaging it no matter what happened. Maybe a change of surroundings will do him as much good as it will us.
Glad to see McRae back at the club, but also glad that it's not in a coaching capacity. I think that way would only spoil the memory of his last spell as I don't think he could do the job we need as a coach, but as a proper Director of Rugby I think it could work really well for us. I certainly expect improvement in bringing players through to SL standard going forward.
If we do get Peter Gentle, it will definitely show that we're serious. I can't remember the last time there was either a player or coach available that was attracting interest from/linked to multiple clubs that we won the race for. He seems to have a good reputation and CV too.'"
Very good post...

| Quote: barton baird "Agree with what you say.Bomber has stated he does not want a coaching job,as I put elsewhere,I believe he stated it in League Weekly.
I admit I do not want to give Agar a character assassination as he seems a decent bloke. All the same I am glad we are moving on.'"
Yeah, I said about that in the Peter Gentle thread. As I said on there, I don't think the timing of his announcement that his coaching days were over and now this are coincidence. I suspect it was to make it absolutely clear to the coach coming in that there would be no interference from McRae, a reassurance that they would be left to run the team in their own way.

Speaking of Leeds, wonder if Agar's hoping to meet them in the playoffs in the hopes of slaying that demon before he goes?

So, it's a mistake to bring in somebody with, probably, the most experience and contacts around in Super League at the moment. Clearly Adam Pearson isn't a "rugby" person yet he'll be the man who'll be appointing the next coach at Hull, so would you like him to pick someone without some solid advice and knowledge that McRae has, not to mention he has Hull at heart. He's a excellent reader of the sport and he knows the game inside out, I can't see it being a bad thing having his knowledge and experience at the club again. I could understand your concerns if he was appointed coach but he'd made it clear before now that his health won't allow him to coach so he'll be involved in apppointing the new coach and will be a link between the coach and AP, plus I'm sure he'll be advising AP on all things rugby league.
I love how even when there's good news and promising signs for the club people like you still turn it into a negative and have a go

| Does anybody else feel as though they have had a massive weight lifted off their shoulders?
People questioning Mcrae baffle me. when he came to our club we were a shambles possibly going out of business. That was late 1999 i have a dvd on the 2003 season and we were tremendoes with great vision and pace, the two Smiths, Barnett, Prescott, Best, other players he brought in later Briscoe, Mcmenamy,Swain and more. He left us with a very good academy and exciting squad, Kear took over and won the challenge cup the next season, but with mcraes players.
As supporters, think back to the 2005 league performances under Kear and they were dull at times with the same squad. To say he has won nothing since he left sts is factually correct, but his legacy at Hull is still with us today but fading fast after poor coaching choices. At Salford the directors asked him what position they would finish, he replied how much will you spend and i will tell you. They spend nowhere near the cap, so they are were they are near the bottom. Could any coach have done any better at Salford under the same circumstances ?

| This clears a lot up, have snipped the best bits out
Refreshed and ready for the next chapter of his life, he says he has no intentions of returning to coaching.
"When I made my mind up that I wasn't going to coach anymore, I started to look for something else which would keep me in the game.
"This is the logical step and I think I can utilise my experience.
"Adam sees a role for someone with experience in rugby league and I have that experience.
"I know how the game works and I think I can help, alongside Adam and the new coach, in taking the club forward."
McRae is already working alongside Pearson to recruit both a new coach and new players.
McRae wouldn't be drawn on who the new man is, but he is adamant that whoever he appoints will be left to get on with the job of coaching without any interference from him.
"As I said earlier, I have no intention of coaching anymore and I'll not be interfering on that front," says McRae.
"I have a clearly-defined role from Adam and that is to run the football programme.
"It is my job to support Adam and be the conduit for the staff and the players."I see my role as being a mentor and being there to help and educate, not to tell people how to do their job.
It is down to me to employ the right people who know how to do their job, and then be there to provide support if they need it.
"I'm not here to coach in any capacity and I wouldn't have taken on the role under any other circumstances."
