Given Leighs current situation i reckon if you offered them a small fee they would allow Ellis to leave straight away.

I know what you're saying and I agree to an extent. If Long does not get a new deal I hope we use the quota spot for a kicking half but think we are more likely to go with Horne, Obst with Ellis as back up. We need a better kicking game, Heremaia will help with that but I don't think Obst is the answer over a full season playing scrum half.

I wouldn't be surprised if Obst left the club tbh.

We need to use the quota spot & salary from Fitzgibbon (who will retire) & sign Robson or Seymour.
We have messed about too many years now without a regular scrum half. If we are pinning all our hopes on Horne, Obst & Ellis we may as well write next year off as well as this year.

My thoughts too. We need a first choice scrum half under 32 with a good fitness record and handy kicking game. Instead we are forming an unfeasibly large collection of stand-offs/hookers/championship players including Horne, Turner, Obst, Heremaia, Nicklas, Williams and Ellis, and believing if we close our eyes, put our fingers in our ears and wish really, really hard, one of them might steer us to top 4 or failing that the dizzy heights of the play-offs.

Yes he would back Horne up and Ellis would back up Obst.

am i missing something...not being funny but weve desperately needed half backs for years,ones with good kicking games,ones that free up the three quarters,ones that take the game by the scruff of the neck...we have some very good players with the glaring omission of half backs...so why the hell do we continually go and buy in other positions? frankly some of the suggestions for our half backs on this thread..fills me with absolute dread..i really am at a loss trying to fathom it out..surely its not that difficult for the club to see what we are painfully missing!?

You'd hope so, I'd pay off Obst and make a move for Dobson, Seymour, Robson, Smith. In that order.
