I think the NRL would have always wanted our best players if they'd have been financially viable, the change is that it is now an option. Obviously it's great that we're producing such players, but a consequence of losing so many of them combined with the lack of imports is having an impact on the quality of teams ATM.

It's not necessarily a bad thing. If the clubs react in the correct way it should be good for our sport by driving them to produce more players, a short-term pain, long-term gain situation. Unfortunately, the fact that they've quickly started crying and we're going back to 12 teams suggests that we're not going to see that, though.

I think we're about right in the league.

On the positive side, we've had several unfortunate serious, long term injuries this season and last which has meant we have blooded lots of young players - something we were crying out for under the previous regime. Our team tonight was very inexperienced in SL terms and Wigan (whilst young) was made up of players with not much less SL experience.

It's easy to point out the negatives (with everything in life) but look how many young players are finding their feet in our team now as regulars - Shaul, Crooks (injured), Lineham (injured), Arundel (injured), Bowden.. you know I'm bored of listing them...

We won a game tonight that would certainly have been lost in previous years. I'm not sure we'll get much further this year but the experience the younger players is getting will stand us in good stead next year. Lineham staked his place, Crooks his... can Shaul do the same? etc etc.
