Not a good idea for Radford to start publicly criticising the players so early. Signs of his inexperience here.
No mention of him accepting any of the responsibility for what happened yesterday.
Radford has got the job he wanted. The players have got the coach they wanted. Time for both to stop making excuses and start delivering.

| It was refreshing that Radford didn't make excuses for his starting pack yesterday. He will be judged on how he deals with it though - time will tell.

Did the same after the Bradford defeat, not started off well for him!

| Feel real sorry for Rich to be let down in such a manner. Top bloke, didn't deserve that.
AP must realise now he is flogging a dead horse, its going to be a long long season.

I knew that last year and it worries me that he and Last didn't , it's not as though they weren't part of the set up last year after all! With one or two exceptions last season our pack were beaten by the opposition losing ground both defensively and offensively in nearly every tackle. O'Meley was the one forward that other teams worried about and he couldn't maintain his game for more than about 10 minutes at a time , understandably. The Featherstone props at least looked like prop forwards even if it was us that made them look like World beaters. Our forwards that played yesterday looked lightweight and ineffectual. To have even an average season we're going to rely on Mick Paea playing big minutes every week and not getting injured and Feka getting back to his Wigan form. Both are unlikley.

If you’re hoping for big minutes from Paea then you’ll be disappointed, my only criticism of him was his lack of effective on the pitch time. He’s fantastic for a 15 minute spell then it tails off quickly and he becomes an easy target for attackers. For me the biggest loss you’ll have will be Lynch, 80 minute props are hard to come by he took me as a real grafter.

I think that there's something to be said for staging a knock-about novelty exhibition game for testimonials. It's not like pre-season friendlies are a big draw in their own right. Play a sort-of low impact, low-risk half-contact game, allowing the some of the player's retired mates to turn out for extra nostalgia. Motu Tony, for example maybe or Paul King or any number of others. You could even have Nick Barmby or Luke Campbell or somebody do a little spell on the wing, if they were up for it. It'd be a bit daft, but that'd be part of the fun. You're at least guaranteed a celebtratory atmosphere.
Johann Cruyff's Ajax testimonial in 1978 (during his second spell there) was won 8-0 by Bayern Munich, so RW is in good company at least.

Which is why he said "both are unlikely"!

Bingo mate that last bit.
I'd threaten westerman and watts with doncaster (no offence to Donny) unless they start to step up to the plate

Neil Hudgell played in Paul Fletchers testimonial game. I remember Johny Vegas playing in a Saints one, think it was Cunninghams. Thinking back to the 80s I recall a referee putting a shirt on and the Rovers pack smashing him. Think it was Ronnie Campbell but could be wrong.
One of the best testimonial games I have been to was Jamie Carraghers. Liverpool played Everton. Both teams started with full sides but only really played at 80%. Then Liverpool started bringing on ex team mates of Carragher and some old Liverpool legends. Everton put on their youth side. One of the linesman wore an Everton shirt and didn't give Liverpool anything all day. Carragher even took a penalty for Everton. It was just good fun which is what Testimonials should be. Whitings big day was ruined yesterday and its a crying shame for such a loyal clubman, and good player.

| Dont think Rich has much to be upset about
Whilst the team he has given 10 years loyal service failed to turn up, the town he grew up in and where all the family still live, the team he supported as a young lad, the team where he played as a young boy, the team that gave him his break and his chance and the team that he may end up finishing his career at as well as offering to stage the game when the KC couldnt and have offered any further assistance if required with the testamonial kept their end of the bargain and were competitive and put on a decent show for him both on and off the field which im sure he wouldve hoped for
Alright the result or the manner in which the result occured is probably not the way it was supposed to go but for the day as a whole - his only two professional clubs, a decent crowd, decent weather, decent atmosphere, i think he will be delighted
