My thoughts are with Longy at this moment and i only hope that whatever decision he comes up with is the best decision for Sean Long himself, after a long distinguished career like he as had, its the least he deserves.'"
Yep, nice one Greavsie.

Or the brain-dead few who waved bye bye to Briscoe, don't have footage, so can't comment. Or the lighter-chucker at Wigan.
But what was so shameful was that it was [iall[/i the East Stand wishing Long well today. Thousands of them. The sheer numbers make the difference and undermine you argument - you [ihave[/i no argument with this one.'"
Erm no it wasn't lots of us applauded him,and to be fair IF people knew how serious the injury was(we couldn't tell when he walked off tbh) then I'm 100% sure everybody would have applauded him as the majority of fans recognise what a great servant to the British game Longy has been.

I said this at the time, (I wasn't cheering by the way), shame to see one of the best British scrum halves careers come to end with a bit of a whimper. Realistically he should have called it a day when he left saints but looking at the type of character he is I reckon he hasn't played his last game of SL rugby.
Hope it isn't as bad as it is feared.

They weren't to know the severity of the injury and although it wasn't exactly clever cheering when he went off, I'm sure they would have applauded had he been stretchered off.'"
Exactly my thoughts at the time. Immediately after an important player goes down from a collision, either innocuous or a big hit, and leaves the field looking dazed, you'll always get cheers from opposing fans. I thought he may well get patched up and be back on. Like you say had a stretcher been on, it's a different kettle of fish altogether.
As far as Long is concerned, I'm not convinced hull would've won the game had he stayed on, but losing your most creative player and thus your kicking game probably cost you your chance of getting a result.
Personally I take no pleasure in seeing any player get injured and it's a shame a very good one looks like he'll be in for another lengthy absence.

No-one can say really? But it did set us back big style. We lost all composure when he went off,and it seemed to spur Rovers on.For a player, who hadn't played for quite a while,he was just starting to control the game.

Even if he gets back in 6 weeks (Leeds cup game) and plays the rest of the season he will only make it to a 50% playing ratio over his 2 years which is just not good enough to warrant a new deal IMHO.

| Thing is he may do himself some lasting damage if he carries on how many more "unlucky" injuries can he come back from? He must know in himself he is busted up...more to life than money!! Great payer but time to cal it a day.

I agree, it is sad to watch this happening tbh...he is possibly one of the best h/backs this country has ever produced and I am sure he will have a career in rugby maybe coaching or commentating, it is a sad way to end his career no doubts but like you say his body has had it.

| So if we don't offer Longy a new deal will we sign another number 7 for next season? It sounded like the club were going to sign up him up again for 2012 but surely this injury will change that stance? If so, who can we hope to bring in for next season? We certainly can't sit and do nothing just because we've signed Ellis.

long should be gone end of leaving us with obst and ellis and if we go into next season with 1 of these as first choice 7 then that simply isnt good enough. weve wasted a quota spot on heremia and there isnt no good english 7s about

| That's what I was thinking. I think this may have thrown a spanner in the works as regards the remainder of our recruitment for next season. Like you say, going in with Obst and Ellis as your halfbacks just isn't an option.
