This mudslinging is stupid. No set of fans are more sporting than another and it's pathetic to pretend so.

Not trying to pretend anything. Try reading my posts, I merely commented on today's incident. If it was the other way round I would feel ashamed of my fellow fans. Not point scoring just saying it like it is.
Imo it's pathetic to pass off one incident because of something that happened years earlier.

| I hate to see fans cheering at players' going off injured but I'm not going to have a massive go at Rovers fans for what happened today - it's a Derby so for me it kind of goes out of the window a little and the line tends to get pushed further back than it would in any other game. They weren't to know the severity of the injury and although it wasn't exactly clever cheering when he went off, I'm sure they would have applauded had he been stretchered off.

| I remember the thinking on here last season and early this year, with numerous big names out of contract for the 2012 season, the club could bring in a marque scrum half. Is it fair to assume with the signing of Ellis and Heremia(sp)that this is not likely to happen now?

| Regardless of whether Rovers fans cheered or not is not the most important thing to me and neither is whether FC offer him a new contract, i know we have not seen the best of Sean Long at Hull but the fact remains that throughout his career he has been one of the best if not the best British scrum halfs of all time,it must be heartbreaking for any player to have to call time on their career because of injury and i can only imagine how bad Longy is feeling at the moment not knowing if his career is over or not.
My thoughts are with Longy at this moment and i only hope that whatever decision he comes up with is the best decision for Sean Long himself, after a long distinguished career like he as had, its the least he deserves.

Well said, those were my first thoughts when the incident happened. We are talking about a great of RL and not just two years he has had with us. As for those who don't want him to sign a new contract that's fair enough but it's wrong to tell him to hang up his boots. Just because we might not want him does not mean he can't go and do a job elswhere.
I hope he gets back playing whether it's with us or not.

But what was so shameful was that it was [iall[/i the East Stand wishing Long well today. Thousands of them. The sheer numbers make the difference and undermine you argument - you [ihave[/i no argument with this one.'"
Erm no it wasn't lots of us applauded him,and to be fair IF people knew how serious the injury was(we couldn't tell when he walked off tbh) then I'm 100% sure everybody would have applauded him as the majority of fans recognise what a great servant to the British game Longy has been.

I said this at the time, (I wasn't cheering by the way), shame to see one of the best British scrum halves careers come to end with a bit of a whimper. Realistically he should have called it a day when he left saints but looking at the type of character he is I reckon he hasn't played his last game of SL rugby.
Hope it isn't as bad as it is feared.

Exactly my thoughts at the time. Immediately after an important player goes down from a collision, either innocuous or a big hit, and leaves the field looking dazed, you'll always get cheers from opposing fans. I thought he may well get patched up and be back on. Like you say had a stretcher been on, it's a different kettle of fish altogether.
As far as Long is concerned, I'm not convinced hull would've won the game had he stayed on, but losing your most creative player and thus your kicking game probably cost you your chance of getting a result.
Personally I take no pleasure in seeing any player get injured and it's a shame a very good one looks like he'll be in for another lengthy absence.
