| Quote: Chris71 "Is that the team are unfit or down to the way they play in terms of penalties/set restarts that we give away and the rotation/use of the bench?
I must admit that I have often wondered about the training as while I've been out and about with I've quite often driven past the training ground at various times of the day and rarely seen anyone out on the field.
From the outside as a fan it still seems as though there isn't enough responsibility or accountability taken for poor performances and its still cosy, is it that BH is just too nice a guy?
As much as some have said its the players that are committing the penalties and giving away set restarts and yes they are but ultimately its the Head Coach and coaching team to address issues of the play of which ill discipline is one and one that never seems to go away.
One other point of note is that a couple of times when interviewed BH in terms certain aspects of play he has said along the lines of he lets/leaves the players to do that, I just can't seem to find the interviews now.'"
The thing about penalties and set restarts, and I know I’m biased, but we seem to get pinged for things that other teams get away with?
Catalan were taking an age to clear the ruck but seemed to get away with it apart from just before half-time. I’m sure Mcillorum came flying into a tackle on a grounded player and got away with it. A couple of the penalties for high tackles were not high?
It just seems every little thing we do gets penalised?

| Quote: al283 "shoving 5 or 6 youngsters in would be madness & probably set them back.
Do think the time is right to retire Josh, he is a joke with a ridiculous & appalling tackle technique - surely BH cant support this ? Non existent in attack too, will rank as one of our worst overseas signings ever.
Do think JJ needs to go back to reserves - Balmforth looks class. Lovodua back to 6 ? Wynn to FB ? Cam Scott centre ?
For me Gale & Shaul running out of time, love Jamie & at least he cares and is trying but sadly his best days are behind him.
Next weeks team will be fascinating, BH needs to put a team out that will win.'"
I'd be happy with 2 young players out of Litten, Balmforth and Hookem, I think our team could carry those two and am convinced we wouldn't be any worse off than we are now.

| Quote: Rocknrolla69er "I'd say he'd abit too nice as someone else said.
He's trying to play players into form which isn't working.
He stated he should of trusted Hookem sooner yet the lad can't get a game over 2 terribly performing half's.
Gale can't put a kick Into touch more than 8 yards down the pitch, can't kick a goal and can't make a pass, Hookem would play better.
Lovodua has put in man of the match performances at 6, yet Hodgson again is persisting with a half in Reynolds who's basically here for a jolly, the ridiculous tackling where he's trying to flatten players and bouncing off or giving pens away for high shots is cringe worthy now.
Balmforth top young hooker, tipped for big things, can't even get on the bench ahead of Jordan Johnstone who's deemed not good enough, Hodgson would rather flog an aging Houghton for 80 minutes.
Shaul another who's not good enough any more, way off the pace yesterday and most times he's appeared, deemed not good enough yet starts other young prospects. Mcintosh and Swift can cover and we have Barron who can play wing who's meant to be lightning and he's about 6ft2 offering an aerial threat out wide. No can't pick that.
Zero creativity, without Connor but absolutely no bravery or trust from Hodgson in giving hungry talented young players a chance.
Been baffled by a lot of team selections but bottom line is Hodgson isn't brave enough to pick the academy lads.
For me we need an experienced coach who will also demand consistency and performances.'"

| Ben Macs injury really couldn't have come at a worse time for him and the team, it's clear BH rates him and you'd like to think he would be getting selected ahead of Reynolds or Gale.

We l see what the next fixture brings in regards to selection. But if Lovoduas not at 6, then the guys lost the plot.
I'd be quite happy if we got rid now, some will saytoo soon, but as u say too many head scratching team selections, its as if he's not learning from mistakes.
Still abit of a holiday camp at hull

Said pretty much the same on the game thread in that there still appears to be little in the way of responsibility or accountability in terms of player performance and all still seems to comfy and cozy for players. Feels like the tail is still wagging to dog and my worry is that BH just doesn't have enough authority over the players or is just too nice a guy.

| We need a coach who can improve players, or get the most out of his existing squad, many players come to Hull, look good for the first few games then seem to lose a bit of pace, offloading ability, attitude and general intelligence. If we'd have signed Konrad Hurell for example, do you think he'd be performing at the same level under Hodgson as he is for Woolf?

Agree on the good time bit, was it Peter Sharp (who took us on a 13 game winning run and got us to our first and only grand final) who clamped down on discipline, but the players didn't like it so effectively forced him out? Then it was back to the good times under Agar, Radders and seemingly Hodgson?

No, the players loved Sharp. Hetherington and Rule didn't.

| great Coach Peter Sharp and a real disciplinarian who was respected by the players. I think it was Peter Gentle who was driven out by the players and the 'coach elect' I think its fair to say that if that ever comes out what was said that night at Huddersfield after the game it will make for interesting reading.

| I'll give my views as an outsider on Brett Hodgson, then feel free to rubbish them.
It appears to me that he is very very good at building a club, putting strong structures in place with the right staff within those structures.
The pathway he has developed at Hull from the scholarship into College, Academy, Reserves, Rising Stars into the first team looks a genuine one and if I were a Hull youngster I would feel I had a real opportunity to advance there and be supported along the way.
Some of you guys will go to more junior Hull games than me but I do go to a fair few and every scholarship, academy and reserve game I have attended I have seen Brett Hodgson. You wouldn't see that with a lot of Super League coaches. He is across everything which has got to be a major positive.
However, I'm not convinced he is a great coach or a particularly good man manager of players from snippets I'm told.
In my opinion you would be in a far better position if Hodgson had come over in a Head of Rugby role and Andy Last had been retained purely to coach your first team with no other responsibilities.

Think thats a fair shout to be honest and have to say I agree about the Head of Rugby role for Hodgson as opposed to Head Coach

On what you've seen from the Hull Academy which players would you consider having the best chance of establishing themselves in the first team in the next year or so?
Thanks.
