| Quote: Fields of Fire "Griffen clearly pulls up in agony, there are Sts players waving at the ref if Fages stops the play everyone would be saying great sportsmanship but he didn't so what does that say.'"
As I say it's unfortunate but the laws of the game were applied. The referee wasn't at liberty to stop the game. I've read some people say Fages should've taken a voluntary tackle, but what then? Hull take a tap penalty and hand the ball over? Or does the ref just ignore the offence and allow Fages to play the ball? We can't have laws just made up on the hoof. Same as the idea that Saints should've let Hull walk a try in. Nice thought but would make the game a bit of a farce.
The main thing is that Josh Griffin makes a full recovery as quickly as possible. Thankfully it wasn't a late match winning try.

Not saying any laws were broken its about the spirt of the game when a player goes down clearly in agony and Fages plays on.

Fully agree. Game is only stopped when the players welfare is at immediate risk, ie) knocked out. Griffin clearly got a bad injury, but stopping the game wasn't necessary to assist that player. Was an 8 month injury either way......

| No rules where broken. Suppose it comes down to sports manship. Player badly injured another player takes advantage.

This is the way it is in RL. Same as opposition players running at an injured man.
Tough, tough game.....

Griffin snapped his achilles, that was completely obvious. 6-8 months....

| Gutted about the result but super proud of the fightback. Amazing to be back in a stand of B&W's going berserk. So close to taking the lead ay 18-21 but got to say Saints better team overall. On to Cas we go, great to be getting back to games again.

| I wonder if Wilkin has ever ruptured his Achilles whilst taking the ball in?
Glad Kevin Brown said he did the same thing as Griffin. That said, if Wilkin was made of chocolate, he’d eat himself.

Sorry Rider you play to the whistle
Griffin didnt lose the ball he threw it away
If this incident had been the other way round we as Hull fans would all be saying the Hull player was correct in picking up the loose ball and scoring the try.

I think the only way anyone could criticise Josh Griffin for the incident is if they themselves have held on to the ball after rupturing an achilles tendon whilst in possession during a game of rugby league.

The problem with applying spirit of the game is that we could end up like football with players rolling all over the pitch in agony to stop the game and give the team a rest especially if defending only to get up again and start playing as though nothing happened.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?: |
|
| Players have always called for referees to stop play when someone is (badly) injured.

| It was immediately obvious Griff had done his achillies, as he went down in screaming in agony unchallenged.
Fages, could have just picked the ball up and paused and waited for the whistle, however in the middle of the semi final you can understand him scoring the try.
However, after the try, there was sufficient time for Saints Coach/Captain to decide to give Hull a walk in try to balance out the incident. Similar to Bielsa’s call with Leeds United v Aston Villa the other season. They chose not to.
Sad thing is, if Saints win at Wembley no one else but us will think about this incident. The headlines will just be Saints win at Wembley for the first time since 2008.
