Great news on signing this young talent. Think it's good that the club have a wage structure and will now stick to it.
Can only help build the right culture at the club when players can see a fair and equitable pay scale .
If we have to lose some along the way, so be it. There's a bigger picture to be seen.
The Dobbins don't have a good track record in developing young players, and a worse one in keeping them, so onwards and upwards.

could work out for Dean, may not, could be at keighley in 2 or 3 years going by rovers policy of youth

Or if it does work out, could be at Wigan or Warrington.
Either way, Rovers aren't great on either retention or development.

It seems since JP has been bought in he wants to change the way the club use and treat young players,
We have now signed Dean from yourself and will Oakes from Wakefield, we have wardill making a lot of 1st team appearances along with Lawler and marsh, with today's squad having jubb cator and moran, so we aren't looking as bad on the youth policy as you think,

In the 2006 GF v saints we had 9 out of 17 that was academy products.

Just looked at the team it had dowes, carvel, raynor,briscoe who was still young when they signed for us, the saints side then was white hot.

As Dean is leaving its important that we try to keep HTW. We need to start developing and retaining our own half backs.

Have seen both HTW & Dean at Doncaster this season , Dean to me was the better player & wanted to be at Doncaster playing RL.

Reece Dean is THE stand out young player we have at the club, we should have gone that extra mile to have kept him at the club.

With all the issues the club has had at halfback over the years it would be a real shame to see a few injuries and us making do with Washbrook at half back on occasion. Dean is one of them players who can change a game much like Jamie Shaul.

I think we'll regret letting the lad go.

He was offered the contract pal, we have pay structures throughout the squads, you can't bend it for any of them it would cause upset with others, he looks god at his age group but that's not to say he will make it, & then we would be left with him on a bigger salary then others his age & ability, he sees his chance at kr so let's see eh.

Time will tell but I recall people saying similar things on here about Anthony Thackeray.

If it is over a couple of grand as someone has said on here it looks like a poor decision to me

Name me 5 young players we have let go in the last 20 years that have hurt us. I can only name Hodgson and to be fair, he wasn't showing much when we released him. If we let Dean go and he ends up being an England half then so what? Every club has them.

We can't keep every single one just because a few people reckon he's "THE" best player at the club. For me, I'm pleased to have got Masi, Jez and Jansin here. Turgut is twice the size he was and I think will be the monster centre we need.

That's one way of looking at it. Another way is that if any young player prefers to leave for Rovers for a few grand he may not be the kind of character we're looking for.

Being top of the league certainly seems related to having a united squad with great spirit. And that unity would certainly seem related to clearing out the less ideal characters and implementing a coherent wage structure.
