| Quote: PAUL M "We need to keep developing our young players, that's the way forward. However the way the quota system works makes a mockery of it.'"
The fact we need a quota at all speaks volumes.
A demand-side problem to a supply-side problem will raise prices not quality. Not likely by enough to greatly incentivise different behaviour, in this case, IMO.

| Australian starting 13 average age - 26.46
England starting 13 average age - 26.53
Not much in it...
Don't know why this is useful.

More space for International fixtures within the season.
Higher intensity of Games more competitiveness with the league.
More quality , Less quantity.

Sky tv wouldn't allow it anyway.

No , The clubs would veto the idea.

| The trouble with us is we've not natural born leaders in pivotal roles sinfield chase or roby never pulled us around the pitch on satdy. Look at the Aussies smith thurston Lockyer all do it at the same bloody time. To try an catch up to there level we need hard quality high intense games every week which in S/L we don't! Then just to keep them on there toes is origin football the most competitive rugby in the world. Look at our playoffs first 4 games was crap! massive scores should never happen in them games there should always be tight games that's why there called playoff rugby. Rant over.X

Who would we play in these international breaks? Wouldn't be oz or NZ so we'd be down to Wales or France and they're as competetive as round 3 of the challenge cup.
We need to get something to equal origin and unfortunately if we tried it would just be a novelty event.

I agree - we need a proper Yorks/Lancs series that is followed through and marketed correctly. It's probably too late for 2012, but 2013 we could do with at least 2 high intensity games (and not just trials to see who is possibly going to get in the WC squad). One at Hull, one at Wigan (then moved around to other grounds in following years), promoted to hell and with cheap (ish) tickets. We've had half d events in the past. Now is time to go for it properly.
Something in my mind tells me that Origin wasn't earthshatteringly popular when it started, but they stuck with it and now it's the biggest event in RL.

I quite liked the Exiles concept. If they stick with that for a few years it might take off and it would be more use to the England side than a Yorks/Lancs game.

Quite possibly. Whatever, we need a series of near Origin intensity to improve us as a national side.

| Exiles versus England would be good with some having a point to prove.
Many many years ago I think one of the RU Countries used to have a Probables versus the Possibles as a sort of trial to see who got into the National team.
3 games at that level should rival SOO.
Where to fit it in would be the challenge although you could get one round in from the Magic Weekend fixture.

| Part of the success of Origin, I suspect, has been down to the lack of competition for Australia. They got bored of winning before we tired of losing, I reckon.

| Magic Weekend can be dropped for me. It will be handy for me in Manchester next year, but on the basis that it was to publicise the game in non-traditional areas, its done a world of good
I also don't see why we can't have a big game on a Wednesday one week then back up on the weekend. Plenty of players do it in Oz, more than once a season.
