| Quote: Mr. Zucchini Head "First of all we wouldn't play Saints becase that is not how the system works.
Secondly, that is a worse atitude than the players have. "oh we probably won't be able to do it so lets not even waste our time trying."'"
I was using Saints as an example. I don't know who will finish where any more than you do.
My attitude is not worse than the players. They are being paid good money to perform to the best of their ability and only a handful are bothering. I'd be willing to sacrifice a possible 8th place finish this season if it sent out a message to the players concerned that they cannot expect to get by on a minimum amount of effort all the time.
Eighth place for a club with gates, merchandise revenues, and an off the field structure like ours should be seen as nothing less than a massive failure.

Getting rid of Agar will solve nothing, he is not the problem and the sooner those in charge see it the better. If they let it continue or throw Agar to the wolf pack then they will deserve all that follows.
Dwindling crowds and dwindling income
If Agar goes he will be the 3rd coach we have got rid of in 4 years. 'Get in a top class Aussie' I hear people say. Who the hell is going to want to come to this club considering the way the coach's authority is undermined time and time again.

| It's not an either/or scenario for me. Agar needs to go, as do a good number of the underperforming players.

| Quote: PAUL M "Some good points Ian, as always. I would have one concern though, Agar I understand wants to make some big changes for next season in terms of players coming in and players leaving. He has identified these changes and him goin now would mean that a new coach would come in without knowing all of what has gone on. I also don't want to see the players get their own way as imo they are the biggest problem and not the coaches.
I get the feeling the club will stick with Agar and let him call the shots for 2010.'"
You may well have hit the nail right on the head with that quote. Hence the mass throwing out of dummy's from the collective players pram.
Maybe nowhere near the truth, but it looks like it to me.

I agree with your general point about player power and all that goes with it. However, even if Agar is not [ithe[/i problem he is still a significant part of it IMO.
Player power is not responsible for his odd team selections, constant playing of Radford at LF, laughable interchange policy, poor tactics, and general lack of imagination.
At the very least he is managing to make a bad situation worse.

| Hear in lies my issue with Agar (or one of em)...i fully agree that some players are not putting the effort in....so why the hell are they in the team then??!! Pick some kids instead...can't do much worse. Surely that is down to the coach?
All the players (barring Craig Hall - scapegoat i may add) play week in week out regardless of form, application, enthusiasm etc, etc.....Agar hasn't the bawls to sort it out....that (along with his poor tactics, interchanges etc) is why he is out his depth.
And i agree with others - Agar isn't the only problem, the majority of the OOC players need to go also, as do some contracted ones (Radford, King, Tickle)

Odd team selection=limited players?
poor tactics & general lack of imagination=players not following gameplan?
Agree his interchange policy is dubious, and possibly better options for LF

I take your point but if Agar gets the boot then who gets rid of the players? Surely a new coach would not have all the facts at his disposal and could end up retaining the bad element.
I think some of the players know they could be in line for the chop and don't like it, hence their poor displays.

you mean the players who will knuckle down for a month or 2 and then get contracts extended and then the circle begins again

Yup, spot on Karl.
We keep getting rid of coaches but nothing changes as it's the same players who are lazy and uninterested. At some stage a coach needs to be backed and have a proper clearout.

That's why we need to get one in now. They'll have the rest of the season to see who's worth keeping and who isn't. It's more than obvious from looking at the videos who should be given the chop.
Also, the new coach needs to know that they have the 100% backing of the board to weed out the trouble makers (if there are any). You only need to make an example of one or two players, and the rest will soon fall into line.
