If we sign Holdsworth, under the salary cap we can't afford a top class full back as well, especially as Horne has a contract for next year. Therefore Horne is full back (where he is decent), but Gentle knows cover is needed as Horne will miss games (too many miles on the clock). Cover also needed for half backs as no existing cover or young players are anywhere near sufficient standard.

In sum, people are over-reacting. It is not fantasy rugby with an unlimited budget. Also remember, less inspiring signings are likely to be announced before the better ones - for the simple reason that other clubs are much more reluctant to announce they are losing one of their best players.

At the end of the day, McGoldrick is basically taking taking Ellis' place in the squad. He's better than Ellis and covers more positions it's an upgrade. Just as long as he's not seen as a first team regular by Gentle I don't really have a problem.

His on-field discipline is no worse than Tickle and his off-field discipline is better than Manu's & Aspinwall. If he keeps himself fit and doesn't break club rules I don't really see what people have to moan about in this respect.
