Though it's a disappointing result last night Salford are no mugs as they have some quality in their squad. We are missing Houghton & Kelly that's us clear but also Manu is a massive miss too for us.
We do however need to improve our attacking threat as the lack of support play, dummy runners & players running decent lines is still a factor. We rely far too much on Kelly's maverick plays & Sneyds kicks.
An attack coach is something we really could do with. We are laboured passing down the line and pretty static moving forward and stand far too deep giving up vital metres.
That said we are usually have a bad run at some stage and it's been a poor start with injuries all is not lost at this early stage.

I'm not so much worried about losing, it's the manner in which we lost that worries me. We have had 2 amazing seasons with average attack and it really is about time we got that sorted. Our last tackle options are clueless and oppositions really aren't having to work hard at keeping us out because we are so predictable. I've said it before and will continue to say it, but I'd kill to have Paul Cooke here as an attacking coach as I think that's what is missing.

You may say a moan but he has an opinion. For my two pence worth I agree with Seb. Apart from the obvious of missing so many first team players we have mediocrity from too many other players on the pitch. Mini is well past his best & is becoming a liability. Sneyd never a bright lad makes loads of errors with ball in hand, and no variation in kicking other than kicking on the third or fourth which is okay if there was someone there to kick to. Too many times we just fizzle out on the fifth. Shaul always a confidence player is well off form n has been for too long. Washy a journeyman but you have to ask can we afford it. Talanoa becoming a defensive liability. Griffin too hit n miss. Tumivave flatters to deceive at times. That’s why we’re struggling whether Radford can iron it out remains to be seen.

Agree there Karen as our go forward is probably up there as one of the best in SL but our options in the opposition 20 are poor. As I said in my last post we lack runners and support play which makes it far too easy to defend against us as the opposition don't have to second guess. This is an area we've lacked since McRae back in the early 2000's

9 defeats in our last 11 sl games according to sky. Needs to improve and quick. In his interview Radford seemed to intimate they were looking at someone to replace watts. Would be happy if it was Josh jones

Our attack has been poor for a few seasons.
Passing is laboured , slow and ponderous. I think expectations have been heightened after our Cup successes. We have now lost 3 major members of our squad in Ellis , Fonua and Watts .
Without the brilliance of Kelly at times we have no plan B .
There is still time to improve, but this year will pass us by if we are not careful. Let’s hope with the return of certain players fortunes will change .

It's two wins in the last eleven away games. We've not won back to back away games since last May.

Jones would be a good long term replacement for Mini but I'd like us to bring in an impact prop to replace Watts.

Got to agree with you on all that Karen,but you do realise you have opened the door to all the Cookey haters, the" never forgive him" and the ""if he comes back i will not go".I have said for a few years now,even after our two wonderful Wembley wins we are devoid of any plan B's or C's in attack if the kick on the last tackle fails.We have to have an attacking coach brought in and pretty quick.

With respect, Paul Cooke has hardly pulled up any trees at his various coaching posts.

Ideally we'd appoint someone from outside the Hull RL bubble.

I understand the complaints about your lack of cutting edge near the opposition line. But there’s only so many hours in the day, and if you focused on that, there’d be less time to focus on the things that have brought success recently - strong defence, winning collisions and so on. It’s a rare team that is really strong in all aspects of the game.

I work at Headingley DJing and do Yorkshire Carnegie every game. The last time Paul was the coach of Doncaster Knights you could very obviously see the RL attacking style in their play, they ripped Carnegie apart! I said there and then that he'd be a great asset to our coaching team and I still stand by that.

Seems to be a good coach now at Doncaster.team playing attractive R/L and scoring lots of points.

Thing is, he was head coach there so not able to concentrate on the one element, I just think it'd be worth a try along with Radders

You're are entitled to your opinion of course but I think it'd be a pretty uninspiring appointment. I've no issue with him personally I think professionally we could do better.

Where do we get a British impact prop? Better to get Jones now, release mini at the season end then recruit an overseas prop

2005/2006 we were very, very good, if it weren't for an absolutely top St.Helens team (god knows how they got that side under the salary cap) we'd have been champions playing outstanding rugby in '06. Cooke ably backed up by lots of players at the top of their game and we were an absolute pleasure to watch. Until we started getting loads of injuries 2013 was a breath of fresh air, Horne was having a great season and with Holdsworth we really started looking like a very decent side despite loads of rookies, it does show how much reliance you have on a 6 & 7 to run the show.

Even with a fully fit side I don't think the team of the last 3 years would beat the 2005/6 team or even that of the McRae era because they would simply score more points and open our defence like a cheap tin of sardines time and time again.
I think mentally they were more resilient too.

The last 3 years including this we've had one of the best teams in recent memory and whilst we've won the CC with some good performances - Cas and Leeds last year particularly were two of the very best performances since the Warrington and Catalans CC wins in '13, our form in the league has being ridiculously up and down, sublime fantastic performances to ugly, drab and downright horrible.
It's so frustrating.

We may have banked £100000 but Watts was definately in the top three UK props in my opinion and we cant replace him for that money.
Ikahihifo would have been the one to go for if we are looking for impact.
Minichello is either playing injured or resigned to it being his last season.No impact,poor defence and too much sideways running.
Sneyd/Connor doesnt work.We have to either play Sneyd/Kelly or Kelly/Connor
Shaul may miss the Catalan game so i expect Connor will move to Full Back if Kelly is fit.
That half back combo with Connor at full back should suit us better as an attacking unit.Too many times Shaul receives the ball and the attack dies.
There are several players that need to up their game Sneyd,Shaul,Talanoa Mini, and still not convinced about Griffin as a centre, although he has had a couple of decent games taking the ball up he is one dimensional just doesnt see when to pass the ball and his try scoring record is dismal.
Hats off to Dean Hadley.Worked his socks off.By far our best forward again..Love it if we could find a Murdock Masilla type second row to complement him.

Not as good as we think we are and battling just to get in the top 8 now.

Cant keep having these performances where we barely turn up. Injuries havent helped but we keep being told the squad has so many good young players that we should be handling it better.
