Quote: Hutchie "Oloughlin still comes from an offside position to pick up the ball'"
How Karl?
IF the official decides the ball is knocked out but isn't knocked on then it doesn't matter where his player comes from to pick the ball up.
The only way it can be offside is if it is deemed to be a knock on from Charnley. None of the officials at pitch level thought it was knocked forward by Josh and so NONE of the Wigan players could be offside.
FWIW from numerous replays, Charnley DOES touch the ball, the ball DOES go forwards and it SHOULD have been a knock on. O'Loughlin IS in an offside position and picks the ball up so SHOULD have been a penalty to Hull.
The fact of the matter is, the on field had one chance to view this incident, were also chasing back to view the incident and both Charnley and Shaul were facing the Wigan line so probably looked as though the ball went backwards from Charnley. Had this been a video ref decision I'd fully expect Hull to have got the penalty (on this years form I doubt it though) but for a spare of the moment call, it is very difficult to get correct IMO.
