Wire choking is probably the only way we'll be stopped, don't you think??....
I know it probably sounds arrogant, but I don't think there is a side who can beat Wire at their best....It will take a choke or a side doing what Leeds did last season, and playing out of their skin, while restricting Wire's attacking game.
I think our biggest threat now is ourselves....and also injuries to Briers, Mick Monaghan or Hodgson...

| Quote: Tarquin Fuego "3 CCs in 4 years ! not like part time players winning it in the 1930s but winning it 3 times when Rugby League is at it's most competitive ever in history.
Tony Smith has brought that success , success I only dream of.
I hope Gentle is the X factor and brings us CC wins and GFs etc
I think AP will actually give him until August next season and , just like he has in football , he will swing the axe.
Soccer had given him that ruthless streak and be under no illusions , Gentle has to deliver next season.
Thank goodness I was there in '82 and '05 as couldn't make 1914. Imagine though , there are some lucky teenagers who have seen their side win 3 CCs in 4 seasons and 3 calendar years.'"
What goes round comes round and boy are those teenagers going to be disenchanted when the circle starts to turn again. And the teenagers who support either of the Hull teams will be in for the ride of their lives. COYH

Would go along with that, but Wire do have a tendency to beat themselves at times. One off games though and anything can happen as was shown by Leeds last year. Would expect Wigan/Wire to get there but Saints/Catalan will be fighting hard to upset the odds. I don't see any of the other play off teams causing a threat to them 4 though, not even Leeds.

Couldnt agree more,
me personally (taking we dont win the grand final ourselves) I would love to see Wire win the Grand final and change the monotony of the SL dominance and also would buy a ticket to go watch the WCC with wire in it as they really do have the closest thing to a top NRL side we have in this country at present and would love to see them play at their fearsome best against an Oz club TBH, when they are on love em or hate em the Wire play some lovely stuff and time and again still all flows through that enigma of British RL Lee Briers, IMO one of the greatest players I have seen ...
Yknow i really miss the old style tourist tour games where our top teams played the travelling Oz or NZ teams because they really were all out wars and it used to soften them up a tad for the GB boys too .

| Interesting to read the views on here...its only 7 years back since I went to Cardiff with a bunch of Wire fans to watch a very enjoyable Challenge Cup Final which Hull won and we were talking on the way back about how great it was for Hull and how they were really the model to follow of how to challenge the existing elite. To look at the quality Hull had in that team back then, with guys from the NRL like Swain, Blacklock and Kearney (Jason Smith before them), plus young home grown lads like Horne, Cooke, King, and a few guys that Hull had taken a gamble on like Carvell, Brough and Thackray, it was the model of what could be done with good recruitment. A few weeks after that we got Andrew Johns and it was all going swimmingly till Hull beat us easily at home in the playoffs, it just rubbed in how far behind we were.
Since then our fortunes have diverged and its been sad to see how Hull, despite not going into freefall, just ebbed steadily backwards every year, it was unnoticeable at first to us (outside of Hull) but we just realised by around 2008/09, that beating Hull wasn't that hard any more, like Bradford too.
But also in late 2008 and early 2009 with Lowes in charge we were absolute crap and a few months later with Tony Smith we won the first of our 3 Challenge Cups so it shows how just one key appointment can turn things around fast. I hope Smith stays with us but I have no doubt that if he moved to Hull, you would be contenders within 2 seasons. I have to say also that getting Carvell from Hull was massive for us, ever since he has been with us we have been a different side, just having him and Morley up front as the two lead props has meant we have had a dominant pack every year.
Just one other point about the business about Wire being playoff chokers....I think this is overplayed. In 2010 we ran out of steam, losing to Saints and Hudds in the playoffs, but we were not alone in doing this....look what happened to Hull getting smashed by 70 points at Bradford after winning the cup, look what happened to Wigan last season losing to Saints twice. And last year, we smashed Huddersfield in the first playoff, and we were only narrowly edged out by Leeds in a game that could have gone either way. I think its pushing it to call it being chokers when we are edged out narrowly by a side that has won 5 Super Leagues in the last 8 seasons....
Earlier years when we made the playoffs, eg 2003, 2005, 2008, we went out to sides that were better than us, we weren't really expected to win back then.
