| Like most hull fans i watched cookie play at fc from being a young lad to becoming an adult player, i enjoyed watching him he was exciting, and one of the best passes of the ball, as a fan it gutted me when he left not for leaving it was the way he left! If what he said is true why all the controversy and cloak and dagger stuff surrounding his leaving why didnt he just come out and say about his testimonial and be honest about stuff, in many ways he brought a lot of bitterness from the fans upon himself, i dont bare any personal ill will towards cookie but as a hull fan and a rugby fan i will always feel sad about it all.........

| cooke got/gets what he deserved. He was happy to take the club's money until a more lucrative offer came along and then walked out on us. The fact he couldn't take the bitterness is his own problem. The fact he was weak and turned to the bottle is his own problem. Lot's of people lose parents, siblings, children, close friends etc and don't go whining to the papers and TV about it. He was in a very privileged position for some thicko who grew up on a council estate and he threw it all away. All his own fault and I don't have any degree of sympathy for him

| I thought Cooke was being very economical with the truth.
There was no mention for example that Hull loaned him money to fund his court battles, and while I beleive Hetherington/Rule are just as guilty of peddling lies and spin, his comments such as 'it wasn't about Rovers, I just wanted to leave Hull' are stuff of complete fantasy...everyone knows he engineered a deal to Rovers, it wasn't like he had 5 SL clubs offers on the table and picked the best one, Rovers was his only offer because only Rovers knew he was 'available' to be signed.
his off the field mis-demenours were also brushed under the carpet, there was a lot lot more going on that just one court case for assault and one for drink driving.
Despite what he did, I still can't deny what a good player he was. I can only imagine where we had gone in 2007 if he had stayed and Swain and Domic haden't retired. The whole club went on a downward spiral after that narrow play-off defeat to Wigan.
