What was great today for me today, was at 14-6 up I knew we would win.
Normally in our Derby games, one team takes a lead and the other claws back and then its game on. However, something's changed with Hull. We just look more composed, very solid in defence and play more up field. We have so much more go forward and our support play is impressive. No longer do we force passes or try and score on every play. Our kicking game was so much better today. After the first Horne kick, that did go staright down the Full Back's throat, we kicked and made the ball bouce. The kick to Hall that led to him being forced into touch was novel and in the second hald we forced three drops outs. All basic rugby stuff, but all the things that lead to pressure and things other successful teams have done e.g. Bradford and Saints at their best a few years ago.
There was a spell during he second half when we just drove forward and kicked for position to drive Rovers back. It was very effective. Then in the last 20, we had the mobility and confidence to open up. Yeamo's try was a joy and one of the best we've had at the KC.
It's still early days. We still have to complete the opening round of 13 fixturesa nd the next few weeks will be tough. However, we have improved and the league table looked so good this afternoon.
Well played today lads and well done Peter Gentle.
This was the best Good Friday since 1984 and I'm confident we have more good days ahead of us.
