Quote: Kosh "A tad harsh. We had no recognised halfbacks once Long went off, so hardly surprising that we struggled to score. And our back division might have been pedestrian but we have problems with injuries.
I have seen this side exhibit attacking flair when we have something approaching our first choice side out, and in particular something approaching our first choice halfback pairing. I think that just because we haven't had the appalling injury crisis of the last couple of seasons some people seem to have overlooked the fact that our backs have been all over the place due to a constant string of short-term injuries to players. We've had several halfback combinations and several right wing/centre combinations, a situation that is bound to hinder attack and, in the second case, defence. Players develop partnerships and a feel for how each other play - this is rather difficult when you play with a different partner and even in a different position each week.
There are definite improvements on last season and signs at least that we can still play better. Plenty of work to be done but no need to get out the step ladder and rope just yet.'"
I accept now that my heat of the moment post was a tad trigger happy.
That being said, there is clearly no plan B. What I mean by this is the lack of pivots once Horne and Long are not on the pitch.
I disagree to an extent about lacking a half back. I was under the impression that Washbrook was a stand off?? Whiting has played 6. Turner has played 13 and 6. Berrigan has played just about everywhere. Now I don't expect these guys to be world beaters BUT I would have thought they would have taken a few more risks especially when we are chacing the game.
I find the comment of "couldn't ask for more committment" a bit stale from Agar. He needs to take responsibility for saying he got tactics wrong.
Having Lyne on the bench was a waste of a spot in the 17 if he has no intention to use him. I would also go as far as to say, when we went 22-10 down with 10 mins left, Lyne would have been worth a stint if only to utilise his pace against a tiring defence. Lyne to the Wing, Whiting to 6????? For the last 10 minutes anyway.
Other than the openning game at St Helens and the home game against Cas can we really say we have played well with ball in hand?
