Arthur Bunting used to call the players up every saturday night to make sure they were home, with a cup of cocoa. I know at least 2 players who got their brothers to answer the phone while they were on the piff. A certain loose-forward was caught out though when he was asked the password. He made one up and was told by Arthur that they didn't HAVE a password.

this is nothing new to me....whilst in brisbane, the players of the bronco's etc used to attend a hoteL called the normanby...it was a hive of activity as u can imagine....beer,birds and banning orders

Who gives a about the weir bar. I'm more concerned about our club than the weir bars' profits. A good move by the club in order to establish a more professional work ethic.
Can't believe some would complain about the ban, the club just seemed damned if they do and damned if they don't by some on other.

I don't think anyone is complaining about the club tackling the drinking culture of the past few seasons, or introducing a code of conduct. But I would question if it is a little ott singling out one particular bar and banning everybody from it 24/7.

I go in the Weir a lot, and as an FC fan have seen the players there after a number of games. If they lose a game by playing badly, the whole team shold be banned that weekend from going out. Win, they can drink where they like that night.

2 of the 'Weir drinking crowd' are still with the club, and were always in after most friday night matches.

The HDM article seems to blame the Weir Bar, and not the players for the drinking culture in there which i fully disagree with. And as for the bar being a place to be seen in, then so what?

yeah HDM in not getting all the details shocker. I dont see how banning players from a single bar will help because they would just move to the next bar along get as drunk as they like as often as they like and technically not have broken any rules so it would solve nothing just move it along. I'd like to think any code of conduct would have been discussed with the players first and making sure they all agree with them, and also agreed any punishments. didn't huddersfield have a similar setup last year which lead to Scott More and Keith Mason missing quiet an important game for them.

Theirs was "don't stay out late with Hollywood superstars"

Ours would be "stay away from that lass out of Emmerdale"

A positive move by the club and one aimed I suspect at appeasing the fans as its main aim. Many players will have been having an odd drink or so in quiet pubs near them for some time without causing any trouble for them, the club or the supporters. This will not be aimed at them, but the hardcore who presume they are above any sort of discipline and I for one hope it has an effect.

The drinking culture in this country will go through massive changes in the coming months /years and having a drink before, during and after matches will be a thing of the past for all of us.
